Top of left arch popped during ballet class followed by mild pain and a burning feeling. Pain around the highest point of my arch/big toe metatarsal.
Ice, rest, pain meds: The injury during "ballet class' may have caused a sprain or strain in the muscles or tendons in your foot. Acutely, after the injury I would ice the area for 15 -20 minutes several time a day in first 24- 48 hours. I suggest taking either acetaminophen or ibuprofen for the pain. It might be: That is a lot of surgery on a relatively small structure...lots of nerves affected. Nerve injury can often result in a burning and numb feeling. Few things: Could cause this. First, I would examine the skin to see if there is any sign of cracked skin, blistering or scaling as a fissure or athletes foot may be present. If not, I would question you with regards to low back pain or if you are possibly diabetic. There are several different possibilities for this:
1. If you are having pain when you walk, it could be a morton's neuroma (this is a benign-noncancerous condition). It is basically a nerve ending that gets too big. It does not hurt if you push on it and is treated with steroid injection.
2. If it hurts when you walk, it could be plantar fasciitis also. This is usually more of the whole bottom of the foot that hurts.
3. It could be a neurologic issue; your nerves are sending messages for some reason that are abnormal.
