What Causes Right Low Back Pain And Front Right Thigh Pain
Neural irritation: There are several causes of low back pain and thigh pain. Problems with the hip joint can often cause back/buttock pain that radiates to the groin and thigh. Irriation to the lumbar nerve roots in the lower back can also cause leg pain. Thigh pain is often seen with irritation to the l2, l3, and/or occasionally L4 nerve roots. ...Read more
Before answering this question, it would be better to define what exactly is meant by the term "upper leg". Orthopaedic surgeons (and others) typically use the term "thigh" to mean the area between the hip and the knee. They use the term "leg" to mean the area between the knee and the ankle. Thus, it is important to specify whether we are discussing pain just below the hip or ...Read more
Low back pain with right thigh numbness and right arm/hand/wrist pain/numbness. Sneezing causes extreme aching pain in both arms. Thoughts on causes?
Spine specialist W/U: It coulb be from disc disease in your neck or high in the back creating some nerve root irritation from the sudden negative intrathoracic pressure created by the sneeze. When not sneezing the disc may look normal, which makes it very difficult to diagnose. The same phenomenon can result from a build up of bone (osteophytes) near the central canal or the foramen where the nerves travel. ...Read more

Sacroiliac ligament: Sounds like you are having referred pain from sacroiliac (SI) dysfunction. Would be good to be evaluated for this by your family doctor. Best treatment is a small injection of anesthesia and steroid into the specific area of the SI ligament. Depending on injury, could also be a hop labral tear that can give same symptoms. You need to be evaluated in person. ...Read more

High lumbar disc: The combination of back pain, with numbness/pain radiating into front of thigh but not past the knee suggests a disc herniation l2-3 or l3-4. This is a <10% occurrence of all hnp. Other causes like piriformis syndrome (pressure on sciatic nerve due to pressure from hip muscle), or problems with the hip can also mimic these symptoms. Based upon age, hnp or piriformis most likely. ...Read more

I have low back pain & down the back of my lt leg to my knee. An MRI showed occult sacral meningocele. Could this be the cause?
These typically are: Incidental or accidental findings on some patients' mri's as they occur usually without any symptoms except in older patients with bone density loss and when large can cause bone erosion sometimes leading to a sacral fracture but otherwise of no consequence and most likely unrelated to your symptoms. See a spine specialist for a specific evaluation. ...Read more
What would cause testicular pain, lower back pain and leg pain? Dr doesn't seem concerned. Says it's an impinged nerve. Xray showed low spine compressed
Iliohypogastric n?: Something may be irritating the ilioinguinal, iliohypogastric, or genitofemoral nerve (an MD exam will tell). X-rays do not, in general, show spinal cord compression-only if there has been trauma. Even nerve compression "seen" on X-ray or CT/MRI is over-diagnosed & often isn't the problem (surgery for impinged nerves causes more pain than it cures). Ur best bet is rehab therapy & bk exercises TTYD ...Read more

Have low back pain that extends to thighs, MRI says I have a bad disk, would a cortisone shot help?
Indications: Based upon research studies, if a disc compresses a nerve root, an epidural steroid injection might be transiently beneficial, but if this is not the case, you are better off initiating physical therapy, emphasizing exercise approaches and stretching. Immobilization is counter- productive and likely to make things worse in the end. ...Read more
My thighs have been sore for two months with no lower back pain. Can ddd cause this? That is my diagnosis? .
Not Likely: Degenerative disc disease alone usually causes primarily low back pain. There may be some radiating leg pain with it due to local nerve root irritation and referred pain but it is unusual for ddd to cause primarily thigh pain. There may be disc bulging or lumbar stenosis with nerve root compression or it may not be related to your back at all. ...Read more
