What Causes Pain In The Spleen Area
I'm having pain in my spleen area what would cause this? It's not too severe. And what should I do it's been like this for 3 days?
Go see your doctor: Not to be rude but how do you know it's your spleen (area)? Best to have your family doc check it out. Low lying pneumonia can sit on diaphragm & irritate abdomen. Mononucleosis can cause spleen to enlarge. Trauma can cause spleen to rupture. Colon or large bowel bends in area of spleen (splenic flexure). Possible diverticulitis, even constipation can cause abdominal pain. So can kidney stones etc.
Will the spleen cause pain on both sides of the chest and back area sharp pains and don't know what it is been coughing?
Not usual: Spleen is in high, uppermost left abdomen under the diaphragm. It can enlarge but still in that area.See 1 more doctor answer
Three years ago I had a virus that caused my spleen to rupture. They didn't do surgery, just observation. Is it normal to still have pain in that area?
Well: You have to be very careful here if you have pain or do not feel right see your doctor and get checked out.
Just left the ED, CT showed lesion an spleen and free fluid in pelvic area, what are the possible causes of these findings?
I've developed a throat cold and have the pain in my spleen area. Could that be caused by the previous injury and scarring?
Mononucleosis?: The fact that you mention a sore throat in conjunction with tenderness in your spleen area is suggestive of, but not conclusive, for mononucleosis. This could be evaluated with your primary doctor or a walk-in clinic with monospot testing. I would recommend that you get seen and evaluated for this.
Friend 45 yr old ultrasound swollen spleen pancreas and liver blood work fine liver area hurts what are the possibilities of cause?
Possibly from liver: If there is splenomegaly, one cause would be congested blood backing up from the liver venous circulation. The GI or hepatologist need to be involved to find the cause, benign or from other causes need to ruled out. Blood work may not show causes but a team with radiologist, internist, gastroenterologist need to look at your friend in the whole to evaluate causes and recommend course of actionSee 1 more doctor answer
Unknown: Most of us cannot feel our spleens posterior, under rib cage. If ones spleen is big enough to feel that is an issue by itself. In thin individuals, the aortic pulsation is easily felt. If not thin, concern would be aortic enlargement.See 1 more doctor answer
Usually not: 700, 000 americans have their gallbladders removed each year. While there may be some side effects after removal, these are generally easily managed. You did not say why your spleen was removed, but here the only that you should know is there is a very small risk for overwhelming bacterial infection, known as post-splenectomy sepsis. You can speak with your family doctor about this.See 1 more doctor answer
Does a cyst on the spleen cause people to eat a lot. How do you know if the cyst is large or small?
Cyst on spleen does a cyst on the spleen cause you to eat a lot. How do you know if the cyst is small or large?
No: A cyst on the spleen will not affect your appetite. However the cyst was diagnosed, ct or sonogram, there should be some measurement of the cyst. Do not be concerned, as congenital cysts of the spleen, liver, and/or kidneys are not uncommon. Your primary doctor can answer any other questions at your next visit. Good luck.
What can cause the spleen to enlarge and cause me discomfort because I feel a bit of discomfort in my lower left ribcage.
3 main causes: At your age the 3 big causes are mononucleosis (or other infections), autoimmune diseases, and lymphoma. You will need to see a doctor for testing to sort it out.
Many causes: The spleen's job is to take older or damaged blood cells out of circulation. Diseases that cause abnormal or disrupted cells, like thallesemias and hemolytic anemia cause enlargement to compensate for the increased work. Congestion due to cirrhosis/portal hypertension cause enlargement by limiting blood flow out of the spleen. Tumors especially lymphoma can grow in the spleen as well.
Calcifications: The spleen filters a lot of blood and with that, a multitude of infectious material, since the spleen is part of the immune system. Many causes of calcifications but common ones are old infection, clusters of old cells, injury to the spleen or vascular beds themselves, etc..
Lymphoma vs. Other: The spleen in hl may be heterogeneous/inhomogeneous/non-uniform due to lymphoma involvement, spleen infarction (death) due to cancer death in the spleen, or infection, or "other". The radiologist may or may not be able to determine that and your oncologist might be able to say more about it with knowing the clinical history.See 1 more doctor answer
