Go see your doctor: Not to be rude but how do you know it's your spleen (area)? Best to have your family doc check it out. Low lying pneumonia can sit on diaphragm & irritate abdomen. Mononucleosis can cause spleen to enlarge. Trauma can cause spleen to rupture. Colon or large bowel bends in area of spleen (splenic flexure). Possible diverticulitis, even constipation can cause abdominal pain. So can kidney stones etc. ...Read more

Mononucleosis?: The fact that you mention a sore throat in conjunction with tenderness in your spleen area is suggestive of, but not conclusive, for mononucleosis. Possibly from liver: If there is splenomegaly, one cause would be congested blood backing up from the liver venous circulation. The GI or hepatologist need to be involved to find the cause, benign or from other causes need to ruled out. Blood work may not show causes but a team with radiologist, internist, gastroenterologist need to look at your friend in the whole to evaluate causes and recommend course of action ...Read more
