Oxygen (Definition)

Oxygen is a gas that the cells in your body need to work properly. The air we breathe normally has 21% oxygen. A maximum of 100% oxygen can be given. Babies with heart or lung problems may need ...Read more

Can Pfo cause low oxygen levels while exercise. My oxygen levels drops down to about 88 while I am walking, then at rest it goes up to 98?

Can Pfo cause low oxygen levels while exercise. My oxygen levels drops down to about 88 while I am walking, then at rest it goes up to 98?

It can: It can but it shouldn't. Talk to your cardiologist. PFO tend to be small and under low pressure so when you exercise it should not effect things as much. Sometimes there is a pressure reversal and this is not a good sign since it can mean weakening of the heart.

If your oxygen level drops too low, could that cause a non epileptic seizure. Also, if you have severe COPD would exercise lower your oxygen level.

If your oxygen level drops too low, could that cause a non epileptic seizure. Also, if you have severe COPD would exercise lower your oxygen level.

Yes and yes: A very low oxygen tension can make people have seizure like activity or unconsciousness depending on the response of the cells of circuitry in your brain. The cells can become irritable and have more discharges. People with COPD are exercised to see if they need o2 as oxygenation can drop with activity depending on the severity of disease.

Will panic normally cause sudden drop in oxygen saturation levels? With sudden pulse of 144, oximeter went from 95% to 83%. Is that a normal reaction?

Will panic normally cause sudden drop in oxygen saturation levels? With sudden pulse of 144, oximeter went from 95% to 83%. Is that a normal reaction?

Not normal!: I don't know of "normal" reactions to panic. But something was not right to have those vital sign extremes. See a doctor to for an exam and report those stats. A feeling of panic can be a symptom itself, especially if there was no environmental or pre-cursor emotional horror to cause it. If your cardio system is ok, get a referral to a psychotherapist w/ excellent anxiety-panic tx skills. Best wis.

Son oxygen level drops when sleeps, why?

Monitor: There are many continuous so2 devices to monitor oxygen during the night. Even on the iphone. Check them out and discuss with your lung doc asap.

When active my o2 level will drop to 85. Do I have time to get oxygen?

When active my o2 level will drop to 85. Do I have time to get oxygen?

Maybe: Medicare will pay for oxygen when your saturation drops below 90% if you feel short of breath, have chest pain, dizziness, rapid pulse or any other symptoms you should be evaluated by a physician.

Can you please tell me why excess oxygen causes an increase in c02 levels?

Can you please tell me why excess oxygen causes an increase in c02 levels?

CO2 retention: Higher o2 slows down breathing and you do not ventilate properly, do not exhale enough co2. Likely cause is copd/sleep apnea/hypoventilation.

What would cause my dads oxygen levels when they get it up from 75 to 90 to pass out?

What would cause my dads oxygen levels when they get it up from 75 to 90 to pass out?

Possibly he is: Retaining co2. If your dad has COPD and has been given a lot of supplemental oxygen in an effort to increase his oxygen saturation (spo2) he may not have enough respiratory drive to blow off the co2 independently and develop co2 narcosis causing him to be unresponsive. In these patients, we often use non-invasive positive pressure (bi-pap) to help patients as an alternative to mechanical vent.

What does it mean if your blood oxygen level suddenly drops to 60%?

What does it mean if your blood oxygen level suddenly drops to 60%?

Means Hypoxemia: It means there is low oxygen level in your arterial blood and you need to follow up with your doctor or pulmonologist to find the cause and get it corrected. It is an emergency situation and if you can not get the doctors go to er asap.

What could be the cause of dificulty breathing and a normal oxygen level?

Many: Most people with asthma have normal oxygen level and would be those who hyperventilate. See your doctor to find out.

Is it possible that a child can make his oxygen drop and this cause body pain?

Is it possible that a child can make his oxygen drop and this cause body pain?

Not painful: A child can hold his breath and make his oxygen drop. It is not painful, but can cause a fainting spell or even a seizure.

It seems whenever I exercise, the blood oxygen level drops. Will it get better if I exercise regularly?

It seems whenever I exercise, the blood oxygen level drops. Will it get better if I exercise regularly?

Abnormal: It is not normal for your oxygen saturation (blood oxygen level) to drop with exercise. If this is occurring, you should be evaluated by a cardiologist or a pulmonologist who has expertise in the evaluation of people with exercise-related abnormalities.

My normal oxygen level us 96-98 on a pulse ox, I traveled to new Mexico and it was 91-95 and I didn't feel well? Why the drop in oxygen?

Interesting: I wonder if this has something to do with atmospheric change, but would have to know where you originate from. I'm also curious as to why you measure your oxygen level regularly. Is there a health product for this? The lower O2 level could be a cause of not feeling well or an effect of something else that made you not feel well (eg pneumonia). Recommend virtual c/s for more informed response.

What causes low oxygen levels in the elderly?

What causes low oxygen levels in the elderly?

Other diseases: If you ask me what causes low o2 in a perfectly normal and healthy elderly it makes a difference. There is an alveolar to arterial ratio that changes with age, and o2 is lower in elderly by this notion alone but no to point of hypoxia. There is such thing as senile emphysema by age alone, with the changes like that of the skin. See the compressibility of finger as the machine could restrict pulse.

Can stress cause low oxygen level?

Can stress cause low oxygen level?

No: No, certainly not directly. That is, stress can cause a lot of problems, but it would not in of itself cause you to have a low oxygen level. For example, stress could lower your immunity. You could then be more susceptible to getting a lung infection, and then the lung infection could cause a low oxygen level.

What causes low oxygen level in the blood?

Many things...: Many things can cause a low oxygen level in the blood: so many, in fact, that I don't have enough room here to name them all. Here are some common causes: pneumonia; heart failure; clots to the lungs; emphysema; asthma. Hope this helps...

What causes low oxygen levels after surgery?

Atelectasis: Sometimes, there can be parts of the lung not fully inflated called atelectasis. This could cause low oxygen levels and can be reversed by taking deep breaths. This type of lung exercise can be done using something called an incentive spirometer, and walking around. Hope this helps!

Please tell me what can cause low oxygen level in the blood?

Hypoxia: Anything that decreases o2 diffusibility or increases o2 consumption. These will include copd, pulmonary fibrosis and interstitial lung diseases, asthma exacerbation due to decreased lung volume same as in lung resection, pe, later part of chf, sepsis.
