Maybe: Sciatica usually refers to shooting pain coming from the back going down one (not both) of the legs. Regardless such pain represents an irritation of some structures in the body. Leg tingling: Other options: poor circulation, peripheral neuropathy (diabetes or other causes), or compression outside the spinal canal. Based on your age, I would make sure that the spine doc looked personally at the films. I see too many patients with missed diagnoses because the report-only was reviewed. If in question, sometimes ct myelogram will show pathology better. Emg/nerve conductions also may help.

I hit the top of my foot. Swelled up and bleed under the skin. Sciatica now and numb foot top and bottom. Could the hit cause the sciatica pain?

No: I think the numbness in the foot is related to the injury you describe. Ice the foot. If a hematoma is present (collection of blood) you may need it drained.

I have a pinched siatica nerve. Does that cause numbness in the whole leg? I get numb in the leg and foot when I run. Also sometimes when I sleep.

I have a pinched siatica nerve. Does that cause numbness in the whole leg? I get numb in the leg and foot when I run. Also sometimes when I sleep.

It's possible: Most likely condition would be a pinched nerve. The nerves that supply the feet stem from nerve branches traveling from the leg. The "pinch" could be from the back at its root, but it an also be locally due to musculature. Another thing to be checked is circulation because if blood flow is hampered to a an area, it can cause pain and reduce function in the nerves. Get checked properly.

Evaluation: This constellation of symptoms need to evaluated further by a physician. There are several possibilities some more serious than others. A proper history and physical exam would narrow diagnosis and help target therapy.

Given Your Pain: I would suggest seeing a pain/spine specialist to evaluate you further to evaluate what level and what can be done to treat you. There are interventional treatments besides medications and surgeries that might reduce or eliminate the pain altogether.

Large L5S1 disc extrusion compressing L5 nerve & s1s2 nerve roots. Sciatica&numbness in foot. Can I swim or will it aggravate problem.

TimeOfStrifeSeeKnife: Swimming is a good idea but just go easy at first and see how you do. You'll know if you overdid it if you get too sore within 48 hours (at your tender age). Might be a good idea to get an instructor or therapist to help you at the beginning, if possible--even a friend. And be sure to exercise the arms and chest. Breast stroke with a gentle kick. But it sounds like you'll need more than swimming.

EMG/NCS: Can be very helpful in determining issues that may still be from the spine if MRI is not that conclusive. Also it could be a peripheral nerve injury or neuropathy that could cause his pain and the EMG will be helpful in determining this.

Sciatica with numb leg, itchy foot, what to do?

Stretching: Many times acute sciatic pain will resolves after stretching the area abit. The muscles will loosen up and help resolve pain. If not, then consider further imaging studies to see which exact nerve in your spine is getting pinched for further treatment options. The itching is a possible sign the sciatica might be improving.

Several things: Possibly going on including the possibility of a disc herniation compressing a large part of the nerves in the back that could be causing what is called a cauda equina syndrome which should be evaluated immediately &requires emergent surgery. Other possibilities could be in the diagnosis but you should go to your doctor or er immediately especially if noting any bladder or bowel issues.

What can I do for sciatica of the leg? Pain from my hip to my toes and two of my little toes on my left foot are numb.

Sciatica: Low back, buttock and "shooting" leg pain are all symptoms of a pinched nerve. It sounds like you may have that problem. If the pain is severe and limiting your activity still, the best non-narcotic medications that I have found to work for my patients are antiinflammatories such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen which are over-the-counter medications. Other non-narcotic medications include tramadol (ultram) which requires a prescription and nerve-pain medications such as gabapentin. These are all to be taken for temporary pain relief. This type of pain typically resolves with time. Ask your primary physician about these if the pain is still limiting you. If it is still going on for more than a month an MRI may be helpful to help sort out what is going on and there could be other potential treatments outside of surgery that could benefit you.
