Night sweats may be a sign of an overactive thyroid, vitamin d deficiency, or a more serious problem like hodgkin's disease. The most common cause is probably just a heavy mattress and a warm room. The result is the same: waking up overheated and sweaty. Some people have a problem with sweating not just at night. ...Read more

Can mental health drugs give you hot flashes and night sweats?

Yes: Some antidepressants are among the most common causes of night sweats. However, others are actually commonly used to treat hot flashes, so those may be caused by a different drug or mechanism. I would talk to your doctor as it depends on what medications you are taking. Night sweats can also be a symptom of serious diseases, so you should see your doctor. ...Read more

HRT: I know you've read horrible things about hormone replacement therapy - but you've endured this for 4 years, and you've probably tried all the herbal nonsense without success. Your gynecologist can prescribe a hormone replacement regimen that will lessen your symptoms considerably with minimum risk. ...Read more

I'm having a tough time with menopause, over three years of hot flashes and night sweats. Is the degree of discomfort something that is hereditary?

I'm having a tough time with menopause, over three years of hot flashes and night sweats. Is the degree of discomfort something that is hereditary?

Not necessarily.: If you handle menopause the same way as your family you may get the same result. Your endocrine (hormone), immune, and nervous systems are intimately related. If one is out of balance it can affect the others. Your hormones won't work well, despite adequate hormone replacement, if your adrenals and neurotransmitter (chemical messengers in the brain) levels are abnormal. ...Read more

I had a d&c and tubal a year ago and now have hot flashes and night sweats is this normal at 40?

I had a d&c and tubal a year ago and now have hot flashes and night sweats is this normal at 40?

Changes: I am one that believes that tubals interrupt some of the blood supply to each ovary which can change ovarian function. These symptoms may be unrelated however, since many women in their late 30s and 40s develop menopausal symptoms prior to the actual onset of menopause, which is described as perimenopause or ovarian dysfunction. It is treatable with the right physician. ...Read more
