What Causes Goiters To Start Hurting
It may atually help: Goiters or enlarged thyroid glands usually are caused by autoimmune thyroid disease. This will eventually cause the thyroid to become underactive(hypothyroid). Normal thryoid status is essential to normal growth and development. If thyroid medicine is needed levothyroxine (synthroid is one trade name) is essential. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Can sleeping facedown hurt my goiter? I've had pain there the past few weeks; i sleep on my back now but the pain persists. Could I have injured it?
Shouldn't: Sleeping on your thyroid shouldn't hurt. Usually goiters don't hurt anyway. If you are having pain in your thyroid, you should have an evaluation to figure out why. ...Read more
I fell down the stairs and i hit my neck, where my thyroid goiter is and it hurts despite taking paracetamol, what should I do?
Throat pain: While i seriously doubt that this would affect your thyroid levels you do need to be evaluated if the pain continues. Questions that i would ask would include does the pain stay in your neck or doesn't radiate into your shoulders or into your arms. Also are you having difficulty swallowing. If the answer to any of these questions is yes you should seek help immediately. ...Read more

Bone density testing would be useful in determining the need for osteoporosis treatment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

May be related?: Painful goiter should probably be evaluated by your doc as it may be interfering with your thyroid hormone levels. This could be a potential contributor to the dizzy / forgetful symptoms, but kind of a stretch without other more likely symptoms. The pain in your ear could also be related but i think unlikely. ...Read more

Large goiter what could be causing my levels to keep going up and the meds not to work. Could you please give me some examples of what may cause this?
I don't: Know what levels you're referring to and what meds don't work. A goiter is often associated with an underactive thyroid which is easy to treat with appropriate amounts of daily brand name T4 replacement. The goiter will generally not enlarge further after that. An medical exam, other lab and an an ultrasound are indicated at least initially. Check w/your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Excess TSH and unregulated growth cause goiters. ...Read more
Many causes.: Overactive (grave's disease) or underactive thyroid, usually secondary to hashimoto's thyroiditis will cause a goiter.
