What Causes Free Air In The Abdomen
Recent surgery: Usually perforated bowel. however if the patient had a recent surgery or abdominal procedure, there can be free air in the abdomen for a few days.
If done improperly, can a Transvaginal Ultrasound cause a perforation which could result in free-air in the abdomen?
Should I be concerned that after 8 months the source and cause for free air in my abdomen has not been found AND I am still in considerable pain?
Free air should be gone by now: There should be no free air left from any procedures done in your abdomen by now. So the cause of your pain may be something else completely's separate. You should get a second opinion from a gastroenterologist to find out what could be causing your current pain. This would be a wise solution, so you won't have to keep taking Percocet, and building tolerance to its effects.
Weight loss: I understand your concern. Follow through with physicians and specialists for possible Diagnosis of Hyperthyroidism, Diabetes, Peptic ulcer, Chronic Pancreatitis, Crohn’s disease, Malabsorption, Hepatitis or Cancer. See Psychiatrist for depression with painful feelings due to stresses of relationship, marriage, separation, parenting, lack of support from family and unresolved conflicts.See 9 more doctor answers
What can cause upper stomach to swell twice it's size, round and hard like a basketball? Not preg., CT scan showed no free fluid/air, enlarged ovary 4 x 4.5 - urinalysis w/ blood, protein and lg leuk
Bowel gas: Once you have confirmed that the ovary is not a concern you have ruled out most of the more serious causes. A bladder infection should not cause those symptoms. A bacterial overgrowth in the gastrointestinal tract with or without problems digesting carbohydrates can be a set up for fermentation and gas production which can produce significant bloating. Start with a good probiotic and follow up.See 1 more doctor answer
It's not acceptable!: Swallowing chewing gum is very common problem, almost a habit for some people. You will need to be very careful doing that obviously it is a good idea to stop eating gums. There are several reasons why it is not safe. You are absolutely right thinking that the abdominal pain may directly related to the issue. If you feel that the pain is constant and isn't going away soon, check with doctor.
No.: A transvaginal US uses a probe that does not release any kind of air. It is solid and it is only meant to transmit images of your inner pelvic organs. It should not cause any issues with your abdomen or bowels.

Bowel perf. In June. Chest X-ray elevated right diaphragm. Thought it was from free air in abdomen. Sniff test shows not improved. Any thoughts?
Diaphragm paralysis?: Hi, how did u perforate the bowel? Trauma? If that so, possibly you have damaged either the Diaphragm or Phrenic nerve which innervates the Diaphragm, which might have caused paralysis of the Diaphragm. If you have shortness of breath especially when lying down, you might want to see a Thoracic surgeon for possible repair. Good luck.See 1 more doctor answer
See answer: I’m assuming the air / fluid levels were within normal bowel. Both air and fluid is normally present in the stomach, large, and small bowel and appears as a straight line, a level, on erect films. With obstruction, the bowel may have air / fluid levels but would be distended. Air/ fluid levels should not be present outside of stomach or bowel.See 1 more doctor answer

Extreme abdominal distention episodes. No distention on CT (no air, fluid, or distended bowel...Nothing). What could cause this confusing result?
Chameleons vs Static: Humans change status. 2 issues: (1) like most medical tests, only issues present at moment of the test show; not previous or future issues. (2) the range of "normal" (as defined by medical industry: the central 96% of usual) is huge. I have seen many examples of radiologists calling images normal when the issue is quite visible within the images. Get ; examine the images yourself with assistance.
Pelvic/Transvag sono on 8/22 showed partially ruptured ovarian cyst with small amount of free fluid. Would this cause bloating and abdominal fullness?
Yes: When you ovulate, a cyst on your ovary ruptures to release the egg, and some fluid escapes into your abdomen. This can cause an initial sharp pain, or a sense of fullness or bloating. If it gets worse, or doesn't go away within 2-3 days, see your doctor.See 3 more doctor answers
Can ovarian cyst rupture (free fluid in uterus) cause upper & lower abdominal pain, pelvic pain, menstrual cramps, back pain, thigh pain?
Yes: Ovarian cysts can definitely rupture. Typically the fluid from a ruptured cyst is going to flow down to the bottom of the pelvis. It's possible that there are some issues with inflammation, possibly endometriosis, in the uterus causing the free fluid. Definitely when a cyst ruptures it can cause pain throughout the abdomen. See your doctor if you are in pain. Good luck.See 1 more doctor answer
35 year-old woman was found incidentally to have chromophobe renal cell carcinoma and mesenteric follicular non-Hodgkin lymphoma 3 years ago and.....?
Here are some...: I have good reasons to congratulate you for moving and coping reasonably well with left open full nephrectomy in January of 2012, Mesenteric lymph node biopsy in January of 2014 since your malignancy just luckily happened to be the one with clinical favorable prognosis. There is no magic in life & medicine; if any, that is to work closely doc so to apply currently available knowledge, skill, technology, drugs, commonsense, & wisdom at reasonable time and way on reasonable patients. Typically at night, laying down it feels like I can't exhale. Like there is air trapped in my belly. What would cause this?
Air trapped?: Generally when one has trouble exhaling (as opposed to an unsatisfying inspiration or air hunger) the suggestion is of airways obstruction. Asthma is the commonest cause. Are you allergic to dust, dander, or other material in and around your bed? Alternatively, if it only occurs lying down, you could have upper airway obstruction.
