Bacterial metabolism: Certain foods are metabolized in different ways by the normal bacteria that live in your colon. This metabolism permits further processing of the food to give you additional nutrients. The bacteria release different organic acids based on the food and the species of bacteria. These acids are released as a gas and have distinctive odors.

Dietary changes: Certain foods cause bad odors when passing gas. Eating a diet heavy in red meat is one example. Try cutting out one food at a time from your normal diet, for a week or so, and if you have no improvement, add it back in and cut out another food for a week. Be cautious and see our doctor immediately if you have corresponding changes in your stool.

Stomach/ gallbladder: Could be related to hydration status or diet. Ulcers, gastroesophogeal reflux or gallstones/gallbladder problems can all act like this. Adding probiotics to diet May be beneficial, but a physical by a Dr and obtaining history of you/family would help. If stomach or gallbladder problems run in the family, it could be that. An ultrasound of the gallbladder and checking blood/ urine would help too.

GI upset...: Could be a range of things from pregnancy, food poisoning, bad acid reflex, constipation, or appendicitis/colitis. Are you able to hold any food down? With symptoms ongoing for the past week, I definitely recommend a health professional examining you.

Vaginal odor: Some vaginal infections (like bacterial vaginosis, etc) may not cause itching or burning, but do cause an odor. Other infections may have no symptoms at all. For your best answer, please see a gynecologist or family physician experienced in diagnosing and treating these conditions.

Diet and water: You may need to increase your intake of fiber and water. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. Consult this site for fiber foods, or take a fiber laxative like Metamucil. http://www. Mayoclinic. Org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/high-fiber-foods/art-20050948

What can cause excessive gas with really bad smell?

Various things: This can be with seen with change in diet or a food intolerance such as lactose intolerance. If there is accompanying foul smelling stools/diarrhea, then causes such as gluten sensitive enteropathy (celiac disease), irritable bowel syndrome, various infections of the GI tract, or IBD (Crohns and/or Ulcerative colitis) should be considered. This a relatively non-specific symptom.

Why do I pass gas every 2 to 5 minutes? And it always smells so bad

Flatulence.: I would add a probiotic to your daily nutritional regimen. Excess gas sometimes from bacterial overgrowth in the intestines, which we can combat with probiotics. This could also be a dietary issue - diets high in protein can lead to excess flatulence.

Why I pass gas like every 15 minutes and it smell bad? How to cure it?

Why I pass gas like every 15 minutes and it smell bad? How to cure it?

Infection? Dietary?: Since we don't digest the fiber we eat, intestinal bacteria will feed on it and make gas as a byproduct. Another reason could be lactose intolerance, in which one can't digest the lactose (milk sugar) she eats. Again, bacteria will feed on it. Drinking lactose-free milk and eating less fiber, should decrease gas. Intestinal infections, or using antibiotics, can also cause gas and loose stools.

What causes your gas to suddenly smell? I have been eating better more fruits, vegetables, etc trying to watch my weight but have noticed a ten fold increase in the amount of gas and the smell associated with it seems to be very bad. Short of over the co

The: The gas you pass is manufactured by the bacteria that live in your colon when they consume food substances that are not completely absorbed in the small bowel. The gas is produced primarily from incompletely absorbed carbohydrates. The undigestible fiber found in the fruits and vegetables are a wonderful feast for the bacteria resulting in an increased production of gas. Interestingly, the type of gasses we pas are partly due to the very specific mixture of bacteria that populate each person's colon. This is different from person to person so that the same foods don't necessarily cause the same odor in different people. An increase in gas after a change in diet is not necessarily a sign of illness. You can test this by seeing if the gas subsides by going back to your prior diet. It is possible that the gas represents a more specific problem absorbing certain types of foods (one example is lactose intolerance); you should talk to your physician to make sure.
