Not unusual: Many women have fibrocystic changes to their breasts. It does not portent any future problems, with the exception of making it even more important that you do your self breast exams. I have to go for an ultrasound cause of my mammogram, my breasts sometimes hurts, is it more likely to be cysts? Just got a job and don't want it ruine
Yes: But unlikely. There is a certain type of ovarian cyst that causes overproduction of estrogen and that could cause breast pain, though those cysts are unlikely. It's more likely that the 2 are unrelated. I don't see your age, so it's difficult to say why you're having breast pain, but most common is due to hormonal reasons, typically cyclical. If you feel a mass, go to doctor right away. ...Read more

Aggravate not cause:
For many women, caffeine intake (coffee, chocolate, soda/pop, tea) can make fibrocystic changes more active (pain and lumpiness). Natural hormonal changes or hormone intake can cause this as well. Stress is a big offender because it causes us to release more of our natural hormones.
Try decreasing caffeine intake and reducing stress. If no relief, contact your doctor. ...Read more
I have a persistent ovarian cyst and have recently developed a hard mass in right breast, could the two be linked and what could cause this?
What could be the cause of pain in a healthy breast? I had a breast removed for a mastectomy. Now my other breast is healthy and has no cyst or anything in it. Sometimes I feel pain in it around my ovulation or just at odd times. I have stopped drinking c
Breast pain, particularly premenstrual pain, is incredibly common and almost always benign. Women with fibrocystic change are more prone to it, but a lot of women will have breast pain at some time or another. There is no universal treatment, so trial and error is often needed to figure out what makes yours better.
Eliminating caffeine helps with some women, but usually takes 2-3 months to see a true effect. Other common solutions include supplementation with vitamin E or vitamin b6. Evening primrose oil (a supplement available in most drugstores and natural food stores) can be very effective, show in randomized clinical trials. Reduction of dietary fat, increased exercise, decreased stress can all help. Some women find improvement with acupuncture. If it is predictable, use of Ibuprofen can help.
If the pain tends to be focal (in one spot consistently) and constant. It is worth evaluation given your history.
I hope this helps! ...Read more

Can breast cancer cause breast cysts to develop? I know it's rare for cancer in a cyst, but can a tumor be the cause of a simple cyst?
It's possible: A breast cancer may exist in a cyst if there is a mass in the cyst or in the wall of the cyst. A simple cyst is unlikely to be cancerous. Usually cancerous cysts are complex and may have separations within it. In any event either removal, aspiration with follow up, or repeat imaging my be needed to ensure the cyst is not cancerous. ...Read more
Question for radiologist. I had U/S done. What causes a small complicated breast cyst (no solid mass component) to be more "tall than wide"?
Scarring?: Without seeing the images, I cannot give you more than a general response. If a cysts has sharp margins that is a typically benign lesion. As I am radiologist, I would want to know why it is complicated. Without knowing this, I would recommend that you have a followup sonogram in 3 months. If it is stable for a year. You shouldn't need any additional follow up. ...Read more

Hi. Was just wondering what causes cysts. I have one in my breast and ovary. Had a Depo-Provera shot in jan that I discontinued. Related?
Different things: Cysts in the breast usually form because one of the ducts gets blocked and secretions back up. This is often because the fibrous strands of fibrocystic change cause the blockage. Ovarian cysts can have many causes depending on the kind of cyst. The most common are functional cysts. The egg grows in a cyst or follicle every month. After ovulation a cyst called a corpus luteum forms at that site. ...Read more

Can an infected armpit cyst cause upper chest and breast pain. The meds I was on took the cyst down to the size it was five years ago when I first fel?
Yes: Make sure you took the abx for the full course. Sometimes, with enlargement of a cyst in an area that is very innervated, may cause referred pain into chest/breast. Now that you've taken your abx and the cyst is smaller and not inflamed, it's a good time to consider surgical removal. ...Read more
