What Causes Creatinine Levels To Rise
Damage to muscle: The correct term is creatine kinase (ck). Creatinine is something else. Useful to know: most "muscle" weakness is actually caused by nerve, not muscle, malfunction. True muscle weakess: myocytes (muscle cells) contain lots of the enzyme ck. Low levels are found in blood normally. Damage to myocyte cell membranes from a variety of causes causes leakage of ck into the blood. Recovery->normalization.See 1 more doctor answer
What could cause a creatinine level to rise to 1.6 when it has always been normal. I am a 57 year old male well maintained diabetic with a 5.9 a1c?
Possible dehydration: It depends on what time interval you are talking about, to a certain extent. If it was 2 years since your last test, it may be natural progression of diabetic kidney disease. But if it was just recently, there is a reasonable chance you were somewhat dehydrated. Either way you should discuss this with your primary, and get the labs monitored carefully, or start a work up for kidney disease
Low kidney function: You have decreased renal (kidney) function. You should get seen by your primary doctor to find out the cause. Possible causes are: chronic high blood pressure, undiagnosed diabetes, chronic nsaid's (e.g. Ibuprofen use.), polycystic kidneys, lupus, bladder/kidney obstruction, artery blockage (stenosis) etc...See 1 more doctor answer
No cause for concern: Usually it means you are well-muscled or just big.See 1 more doctor answer
How high?: When I was lifting weights every day, my creatinine was usually 1.7 mg/dl, and elite bodybuilders have up to 2.0 or so. This is perfectly healthy. Simply being dehydrated or popping a little too much Motrin can up the creatinine enough to get noticed, or serious kidney disease can be the cause. Don't treat a lab value -- your physician can determine the big picture.
Should I be concerned about my rising creatinine levels? In 3 years my values have went. 67, . 88 to now 1.1. My gfr is 62.
Yes: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, Your gfr is abnormally low and you should consult a doctor.
My 2 year old had labwork yesterday and her creatinine level was 0.26 with a listed standard range of 0.30 to 0.70. Is this a cause for concern?
No: Reference ranges are set so that several percent of healthy folks fall outside on either end. That's so as not to miss stuff. Kids tend to run low in any case.See 2 more doctor answers

Would losing 12 pounds on an already petite woman and dramatically decreasing protein cause BUN creatinine level to drop from 15 to 6 in 3 months?
Loss of muscle mass: In addition to losing fat, you are losing muscle mass and that is reflected in the drop in creatinine. You may wish to increase your protein intake and exercise. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. Practice safe sex.See 1 more doctor answer
