What Causes Choking When You Are Not Eating Or Drinking
In June, I began choking or aspirating when I drink liquids. Happens at least once a day and often feels the wind is knocked out of me. Causes?
Everybody chokes: Occasionally when drinking liquids--"Oops, it went down the wrong pipe! " but a daily occurrence is a little too often. It suggests a problem with the laryngeal muscles or vocal cords. Make sure you aren't inhaling at the same time you are drinking. The only situations I have heard of anyone choking from mucous is in an elderly person that lived alone and was not able to clear their airway by coughing, however this is very rare.
What medication are you allergic to? If you have a bronchitis or pneumonia you may need antibiotics, there are many to choose from if allergies are a concern. Drinking water will help thin the mucous secretions along with a daily anti-histamine. I suggest you go back to your doctor for alternative treatment options.

Restriction: Sometimes if there is narrowing of your esophagus this can cause the feeling of food getting stuck in your throat. Likely viral: If you have a sore throat that is not strep than it is most likely viral which can be just as painful as strep. If it is viral you have to let it run its course.
