What causes a woman to get BV and recur?

Let's see?: Ineffective or incomplete treatment may be the cause. One can get continually re-infected depending on sexual practices. Is your sex partner circumcised and what is his hygiene? Do you use condoms. Are you using sex toys? Do you have impeccable perineal hygiene? You may need a prolonged treatment and you may need a dual treatment with oral meds and per vagina meds. How do I know if I have bacterial vaginosis? And can that cause recurrent early miscarriages? What is treatment?

Get tested: Bacterial vaginosis is an overgrowth of a normal bacteria that lives in the vagina. You are right that can be associated with preterm delivery; i haven't heard it's associated with early miscarriage. You can get tested by your doctor and treatment is vaginal suppository or oral medication. You can also think about what in your environment might cause bv. Sometimes its lubricants, diet, etc. ...Read more

Stubborn case of BV for months despite Flagyl. This leads me to think my husband should also be treated. If so what should his treatment be? Flagyl?

Stubborn case of BV for months despite Flagyl. This leads me to think my husband should also be treated. If so what should his treatment be? Flagyl?

New medication: There are other agents that can treat BV besides Flagyl. Also, if you have an IUD or pessary or use a NuvaRing or similar, your risk for "stubborn" BV goes up considerably. You also need to completely rule out other vaginitis causes (STDs, yeast, hormonal/autoimmune disorders). Consider discussing with your doctor or seek a second opinion. Good luck! ...Read more

Is Macrobid low on the offender list for causing C Diff? I have a history of C Diff but need a good antibio for UTI & want to be treated but also safe

Is Macrobid low on the offender list for causing C Diff? I have a history of C Diff but need a good antibio for UTI & want to be treated but also safe

Macrobid and C. diff: I would agree-certainly some antibiotics are more 'likely' to cause C. diff compared to others. That list includes CLINDAMYCIN, but also fluoroquinolones like Cipro, Levaquin. Microbid shouldn't be too terrible and benefit of therapy (treating the UTI) should be weighed against risk (reactivating the C. diff). There are other factors involved -like how long ago you had the C. diff, etc. Talk 2 MD ...Read more

What can you do to treat pseudomanas repeated UTI probably caused by antibiotic use for a long time?
Recently had septicaemia and p. Lower r. Lung

Directed therapy: If the p. Aeruginosa is multidrug resistant, remind your physician that there are labs that test combinations of drugs to see which combos work the best. Hi there, are you an infectious disease specialist? If so I have a few questions about my frequent Saph and MRSA infections and what the best long term treatment plan would be.. I have been seeing dr after dr who doesn't really understand the disease... I

Fundamentally: it is going to be the break in the barrier, or other predisposition to infection that needs to be addressed. People tend to keep their same germs. It is not easy to get rid of MRSA that is sitting on the skin. It is much more important to deal with the reason why someone is getting infections. ...Read more
