Hypnagogic 'jerk': 70% of people have had these: a hypnic jerk, hypnagogic jerk, sleep start, or night start, is an involuntary myoclonic twitch which occurs during hypnagogia, just as a person is beginning to fall asleep, often causing them to awaken suddenly for a moment. They are often accompanied by a 'falling sensation' possible causes are: anxiety, caffeine, stress, and strenuous activities in the evening.
Sleep starts: Technically this is called a hypnic jerk or sleep start, it occurs at sleep onset. They can be more prominent according to the aasm with any of the following: anxiety, caffeine, stress, and strenuous activities in the evening. So the recommendation would be not to engage in any of the activities if the events are frequent or speak with your doctor about anxiety if need be.
Acupuncture &: Acupressure can be used to improve sleep. Is that what you were asking?
My kid age 2 yrs sometime get scared in sleep. Cried. Body stiff. Jerks too. But he is in sleep. What's the best way to relax him?
Take your son & a: Video of the stiffening/jerking movements to his pediatrician, who will tell you if he needs an overnight eeg to rule out nocturnal seizures. If it's a night terror, you can put your child in his own bed, drowsy but awake, at a consistent time after reading, soothing & brushing his teeth. If he's having night terrors, he'll have no recollection of them & you'll get a full night's sleep.
Nocturnal tingles: More often than not it is innocuous unless it is chronic and if it substantially disrupts sleep. Pressure on nerves like on the ulnar crease or funny bone can cause tingling along the length of the arm from the elbow down. Carpal tunnel syndrome more often affects the palms. Nerve compression in the neck area can prompt shoulder, neck and arm tingling. May be "sleeping wrong" on arm or kinked neck.
People telling me that my body jerks a lot during sleep, is that normal? Does that mean my body isn't resting well?
Myoclonus: I can definitely relate to this. When trying to sleep after studying for a test in medical school, it looked like epilepsy. This is because of a brain that wan't quite shut off yet. Rather than medicinal therapy, try to wind down as much as you can before falling asleep. No computers, TV, internet. Etc.
Everytime I tried to sleep last night I awoke with a jerk I was literally falling asleep sittn up y was my body jerking me awake?
Apneic events: An apnea is an event that awakens you if you have stopped breathing. Do you snore loudly or are you tried during the day. These are all signs of obstructive sleep apnea. You should consult with a sleep physician.
Is it normal or unsafe for body temp to skyrocket while sleeping to sometimes dangerous levels? If its unsafe, what could be the cause of the problem?
No, of course not: This probably means the brain metabolism is inefficient and it might be due to poor diet. Try getting rid of all the junk and stick to god made food.
