Can tendonitis bi-lateral cause a serious injury to the knee 27 years later after previous injury has completely healed?

Not necessarily: No. But the problem previously could have been a precursor to your problem now. Overuse tendinitis can be from being overweight or over active on your patellar tendon. Later you can develop arthritis in your knee, especially under your kneecap. Reducing your weight, avoiding jumping, running, squatting and kneeling, wearing good cushioned arch supported shoes should help. ...Read more

Can Achilles tendonitis cause swelling, what feels like squeezing in the deep center tissue and hair loss in the same leg?

I don't believe it: Causes hair loss. Also, Achilles tendonitis for the most part occurs closer to the attachment at the heel, as one goes higher in the leg near the calf this tendon becomes the gastrocnemius muscle. If you have pain in the calf region a DVT or clot must be ruled out. ...Read more

Is previous peroneal tendonitis the cause for my rolling my ankle twice in the last 2 months? Didn't have this happen before my tendinitis.

Is previous peroneal tendonitis the cause for my rolling my ankle twice in the last 2 months? Didn't have this happen before my tendinitis.

Could be: The body's initial response to injury or inflammation is often to shut down or weaken muscle groups around an injured joint. This makes sense in the first few days but also quickly leads to muscle atrophy and weakness. If you do not strengthen those muscles during your recovery, you will be exposed to reinjury. Persistent pain after ankle sprain could be sign of more significant injury. ...Read more

Had what believed patella tendonitis. Cause of pain under knee...Now it feels better but get occasional pain on side of knee...What is this?

Many possibilities: First, it depends which "side" you mean. There are many stabilizing structures in and around the knee. On the sides of the knee are collateral ligaments, one on the outside (lateral) and one on the inside (medial). There are two menisci, one each side. And there are tendons that cross the knee on both sides. Inflammation, overuse or injury to any of these structures could cause your pain. ...Read more

What could cause pain is below the kneecap? The trainer said something about tendonitis. Could a quad injury have had anything to do with that?

What could cause pain is below the kneecap? The trainer said something about tendonitis. Could a quad injury have had anything to do with that?

Patellar tendinitis: Patellar tendon attaches patella (kneecap) to your shin bone (tibia). Sounds like you're describing patellar tendinitis- swelling & irritation of tendon. Often due to overuse - too much activity without enough rest, change in training regimen, technique issues, issues with footwear. If quad is tight/injured, can change your form - stress the tendon. Try ice, rest, NSAIDs, patellar cross straps. ...Read more

Can going back to running and military workouts after pat tendonitis if you have very min discomfort on side of knee cause a tear or more damage?

Can going back to running and military workouts after pat tendonitis if you have very min discomfort on side of knee cause a tear or more damage?

Potentially: Probably the biggest risk of resuming activities after having patellar tendinitis would be to have it recur, or to injure some other part of the knees. That being said, though, many can resume full activites without any more problems. Thank you for your question. ...Read more

No pain from patella tendonitis for 4 days went on treadmill and increased from 3 to 5 and felt a tight discomfort is this ok or can it cause damage?

Wait and see: Patellr tendonitis is a cause of anterior knee pain. It is an overuse problem. Increasing the incline on the treadmill will increase stress on the tendond, but not as mich as running or jumping. I would progress slowly, stretch before and after and if pain recurs then back off the activity. ...Read more

What is peroneal tendonitis? And what causes it? Can you get it from overuse without an acute injury? Back and outside ofankle and even calf nerve hurt

What is peroneal tendonitis? And what causes it? Can you get it from overuse without an acute injury? Back and outside ofankle and even calf nerve hurt

Overuse/Compensation: Peroneal tendonitis is an inflammation of the tendon and tendon sheath complex of the peroneus longus and brevis tendons. These tendons arise from muscles in the outside of the lower leg and course behind the fibula (ankle bone on outside of ankle). Walking on the outside of the foot (often to avoid pain on the inside of the foot or heel) can lead to this condition as can a bad ankle sprain. ...Read more

6 weeks ago got pat tendonitis left knee now only tight pain while on run on treadmill is it safe to start run outside or can I cause more damage?

Start slow outside: Patella tendonitis can be a chronic problem and hard to get rid of. It usually takes backing off from the activity that caused in, relative rest then going back to activity slowly and in increments. If you can run on the tredmill with no problem you can start outside, best would be on a perma-traack like one found at a local high scjool or college. Th surface is level and more cushiony. ...Read more

Can posterior tibial tendonitis cause swelling in the shin as well as the ankle and instep? Orthotic used 3 months, now just wrapped, but swells more

Leg swelling: Swelling to the posterior tibial tendon usually occurs at the medial and lateral ankle at most if you now experiencing swelling at the shin it could be because your leg is doing more work causing the muscles to become irritated or overworked. Can ankle tendonitis cause tenderness over the metatarsal above the little toe? Does ankle tendon run over the metatarsals?

Who Knows.: I am not sure if you are describing tendonitis and pain of the tendons passing over the ankle or tendonitis and pain of the tendon passing over the 5th metatarsal. There are other possibilities that can also cause pain in the area of the 5th metatarsal. Capsulitis, stress fracture and neuritis to name a few. The tendon in question is the extensor digitorum longus (EDL). To remove doubt, see a Doc. ...Read more

How does an anterior ankle sprain cause post tibial tendinitis?

How does an anterior ankle sprain cause post tibial tendinitis?

PTT kinesiology:: Posterior tibial tendinitis could result from an anterior ankle injury when there is excessive demand placed on the tibialis posterior muscle due to anterior ankle laxity. When one part of a joint becomes weak another part becomes overworked to compensate. This is one reason that ankle injuries need thorough evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment by a qualified doctor. ...Read more

How can I get rid of tendonitis in my leg? Or at least make it feel better.

Diagnosis first!: Tendonitis is a non-specific term that is applied to many areas of pain, though it is often not the correct diagnosis. See a sports med doc to be sure. True tendonitis (inflammation of a tendon) improves with rest, ice, and fixing the contributing mechanical factors. Degenerative changes in tendon (cause pain after the inflammation has subsided)=tendonosis. Treat with eccentric strengthening in pt. ...Read more

Got patella tendonitis and bought patella strap for leg....What is recommended miles per week to run...Is 8mpw a good start and build up from there?

Start with PT: For tendinitis, anti-inflammatory medicines will help with the pain. But the real treatment is to stretch and strengthen the tendon. This is best done with formal physical therapy. Also, sometimes hip muscle weakness can contribute to knee tendinitis. Activity like running is generally ok as long as the pain is minimal. Start slow and build slowly. ...Read more

Yes, start slow: Yes, you can resume running. I would make sure you are using shoes with adequate cushioning, in general running shoes need to be changed every 300-400 miles. I would start running on level surfaces and only for short distances and slowly advance as tolerated. Any recurrent pain, back down and ice. ...Read more

Sounds like SIJ: The sacroiliac joint is disordered in 10 - 30% with chronic low back pain & is cause of pain generation; as reported several times in peer reviewed medical literature. In your age group pursuit of extreme sports (skateboard is the worst) often causes this type of disorder. You need to make appointment with an osteopath or physiatrist.
