Can touching a mole constantly or picking at it cause it to get bigger or turn cancerous?

Can touching a mole constantly or picking at it cause it to get bigger or turn cancerous?

Possibly: Most of the time, it would just predispose to infection/cellulitis. If constantly done, the inflammation associated with picking at it might cause a slight increase in propensity for cancer. So, just leave it alone or have it removed by your doctor or dermatologist.

Cancer (Definition)

Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more

Get is excised: A mole can recur which is probably the case with you right now. But it can also be a melanoma. I would recommend you going to a surgeon and get this mole completely re-excised and examined by a pathologist so that you will be able to get a formal pathology report just to be sure that you do not have a melanoma which has been treated as a mole, first time around.

Can scratching a mole and making it bleed cause it to become cancerous?

Can scratching a mole and making it bleed cause it to become cancerous?

No: Scratching a mole will not make it become cancer. However, if you were scratching it does it itch? Itching is a concerning symptom that makes doctors more suspicious that a mole could be cancer. Moles are easily removed. It is often an office procedure. Please see your doctor or surgeon to have it evaluated to know for sure if it needs to be removed and tested.

Can trauma cause cancer in a mole?

Can trauma cause cancer in a mole?

No: At best we are rarely left with no other explanation but almost always, considering previous state of mole, exact location of injury and time frame to development, all usually points toward trauma, abrasion or scratching, etc as reasons that lead us to evaluate the mole - not causing cancerous degeneration. A traumatized non-cancerous mole often heals normally while cancerous moles/lesions don't.

NO: And I also offer that most (but not all) xrays for low back pain are less than useless. They are specifically to be avoided during pregnancy. Find a better DR.

Picked on a mole consistently thinking it was a scab and it ended up creating an actual scab and disappearing after peeling. Is this a sign of malignancy or can this occur? Can picking cause cancer?

Picked on a mole consistently thinking it was a scab and it ended up creating an actual scab and disappearing after peeling. Is this a sign of malignancy or can this occur? Can picking cause cancer?

Not really: This can occur either way if recurs seek a doctor for wide excision. Otherwise you shaved a mole without a doctor. I all is well and this helped.

What if you accidentally cut your mole or wart on your leg. Does. This cause cancer?

No: Cutting, shaving, trauma to moles do not cause them to become cancer. If you have not had your mole or moles evaluated by your physician it would be a good idea to do so.

So worried can touching black mold if you wash hands about 2 minutes later cause cancer? Also cn shaving over a mole if doesn't bleed/ not irritated?

See below: The situation you described for the black mold, will not cause cancer. The mole is not easy to comment on. You should watch it and if there is any change in size, shape, color, nodularity or bleeding, it would be prudent to consult your doctor.

I accidentally pinched my palm with a staple remover. It did not bleed but I believe it caused a blood clot in my palm and now it looks like mole. What shall I do? Is this cancerous?

I accidentally pinched my palm with a staple remover. It did not bleed but I believe it caused a blood clot in my palm and now it looks like mole. What shall I do? Is this cancerous?

Give it time: It probably is just blood beneath the skin surface and will go away with time. Sometimes these skin changes can be permanant. If it is worrying you, then you might think about seeing a dermatologist after a few months

Why do moles cause cancer?

Why do moles cause cancer?

They can change!: Melanoma is a skin cancer that involves the cells which produce pigment. Moles on our skin also contain the same cells so when they change and appear worrisome (the abcde's) we worry about those cells transforming into melanoma. So moles don't cause cancer but can transform into cancer given the right conditions (sun exposure, family/genetic history. Etc.). Visit www. Skincancer. Org for more info.

Can cervical cancer cause moles to appear all over the body?

No: Moles have no connection to other internal growths especially cancers --- the only real concern is in individuals how have greater than 100 moles, or moles that are atypical, as those individuals have a higher risk of developing melanoma.

I used to have a habit of picking couple of moles that I have on my skin with my fingers. Could such a habit cause skin cancer or something dangerous?

Mole picking: Any skin moless on our body, should not be picked or removed by self inflicted injury; they should be seen by your physician, then sent for biopsy. The "picking" will only aggravate them and sometimes cause more harm than good. You can cause a skin infection from picking them. Moles must be measured for size and examined for changes. Melanomas can arise from moles. Stop picking them.
