being pregnant doesn't mean you should not receive dental care. routine care (not including routine x rays) can be continued during pregnancy. emergency care for pain relief should rendered. it's more stressful and harmful for the mom & fetus to be in pain, than to undergo a dental procedure.

Not sure

Personally, I never heard of it. This is what was posted on WebMD:Special Precautions & Warnings: Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Taking papain by mouth during pregnancy is POSSIBLY UNSAFE. There is a concern that it might cause birth defects or miscarriage. Not enough is known about the safety of using papain during breast-feeding. Don’t use it if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Probably Not

Advil is generally not recommended during pregnancy. Tylenol is the recommended OTC drug for pain during pregnancy. It would be best to consult with your OB/GYN before taking any medications for pain during pregnancy.

Tylenol

Tylenol seems to be the OTC analgesic of choice for pain control during pregnancy. Please consult w your OBGyn before taking anything. Please also remember all medications, including Tylenol, must be taken exactly as directed on the label. This is important: If you take Tylenol, and it doesn't give you the relief you want, DO NOT take more than allowed on the directions.

See a dentist

In general acetaminophen has the least potential for any complications, but it is not always so effective for toothaches. Dental treatment, done safely, is not contra-indicated during a routine pregnancy. Visit http://www.drplitt.com/maternity-dentistry/ for more information.

Check with OB

Definitely check with your OB/GYN. Typically Tylenol is recommended, but I wouldn't take anything until they give you the okay.

OB's like Tylenol .

Please call your Obstetrician about what they would recommend for a painful toothache. Many times they prefer Tylenol for pregnant women. Also know that you should make an appointment with your dentist to actually take care of the toothache. Dental infections are bad for both the baby & the mom. Take care...

Don't wait until Mon

Please do not wait until Monday if you are having tooth pain today. If an infection is brewing, that is not something that should be postponed. Try to see if you can get in at another office today or at least tomorrow and contact your OB/GYN to ask what he/she prefers you to do as far as pain meds.
