What Can I Take With Claritin During High Allergy Season
What's causing my tiredness, pollen allergies or the Claritin (loratadine) I take for it? I have been so tired since pollen season started.
Sleep: Sleep apnea could be the main reason but Claritin (loratadine) does have a mild sedative effect in some more than others. Sleep disruption because of allergy symptoms is also common. Allergy itself is not supposed to cause tiredness but I can't deny that many patients do have this problem. ...Read more
Allergies occur when your immune system is triggered by envirionmental factors it should ignore--for example, pollen in the air, or dander on a cat or dog--and creates cells to fight against them. An allergic reaction typically causes itching, congestion, or drainage, and ...Read more
Have taken allegra, claritin, (loratadine) and zyrtec to help with my allergies this season. None of them have relieved my symptoms. Any other OTC for relief?
I have real bad allergies threw the season change. Claritin doesn't work, I do not like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) because it makes me pass out. I need help ASAP.
You're in good company with 1-2 GAZILLION other allergy sufferers who've no good allergy meds to use during HIGH TIDE. My son's even one. I suggest not to play guessing games or allow others to do the same- especially long distance. See an allergist who can do some objective testing & TARGET a treatment (s). Trust me- guessing DON'T work- ask my son!

If I'm having severe allergy issues due to very high pollen levels, is it okay to take a double dose of claritin (loratadine)?
You can, but: Not recommended, unless under medical supervision, besides doubling up on antihistamines isn't the answer, allergy treatment needs to be comprehensive, unfortunately, there is no magic bullet. OTC nasal steroids and saline nasal washes can help initially besides antihistamines, in addition to environmental control/avoidance if possible, if not controlled, check aaaai. Org or acaai. Org for an allergist ...Read more
I took benedryl 12+ hrs ago. Tree pollen is high my allergies are out of control. Can I take Claritin (loratadine)?
Yes you can:
Both Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Claritin can cause a drowsy sleepy feeling. So they should not be taken together at the same time or mixed with Alcohol. But there is no harm done if you take them about 12 hours apart by which time the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will be out of your system.

Can I take Claritin (loratadine) for my allergies while I am taking lisinopril for high blood pressure?
My throat hurts, is it my allergies, we have high pollen here or is it strep or tonsillitis, I take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Claritin but my throat still hurts?
If it persists seeDr: Not likely to be allergy causing your sore throat. More likely a mild viral infection (common cold). Some colds are severe with sore throat, nasal and sinus congestion and deep cough. Others are mild and may just cause a mild sore throat. Signs of Strep: high fever, pussy white exudate on tonsils, tender lymph nodes neck and NO cough. If only 2 of these strep unlikely; 4 highly likely ...Read more
Mixing medications: Since neozep contains chlorpheniramine, it does not make sense to take it with loratidine since both medications are antihistamines. Loratidine is probably better since it has a longer duration of action and is less sedating. The neozep also has a decongestant and analgesic, but you could take these separately with loratidine if needed (for example, taking sudafed and tylenol). ...Read more
Depends: Claritin (loratadine) 10 mg is dosed once a day. To get the best results, it should be taken before the allergy season begins and before a known allergen exposure (such as going to a home with a cat if you are cat allergic). Claritin also comes in a combination with a decongestant (pseudoephedrine), called Claritin d24 (taken once a day) and Claritin d12 (taken twice a day about 12 hours apart). ...Read more

Yes: Claritin is a very safe, non-sedating antihistamine. It is effective for treating the symptoms of seasonal allergies. Thus, if you have allergy symptoms for 6 months, it is ok to take that. However, if you have more severe allergies, a nasal steroid spray might be more helpful. I would also recommend you see an allergist to find out what it is that is causing your symptoms. ...Read more

Can I take certirizine in the morning and loratadine at night for a couple of days for severe allergies.
Antihistamines: In general the class of antihistamines that includes Loratadine and Cetirizine is well tolerated, safe and effective. While most people tend to have a better effect with one or the other, there really is no significant risks if these 2 are taken together. If allergies are not controlled, an allergist can develop a better treatment plan as other more effective medications are available. ...Read more
When seasonal allergy hits hard on day 1, does it help to take 20mg loratadine on 1st day to jump start relief?
Maybe: Recommended dose is 10 mg. Studies with higher doses did not show improvement. Loratadine is the weakest antihistamine out there, would recommend Cetirizine or Fexofenadine instead. If you were going to take more I would take 10 mg twice per day rather than 20 at once. With increased doses I would watch for increased side effects, especially drowsiness. We do use higher doses for hives. ...Read more
If I take Claritin (loratadine) but it doesn't work because I have a more intense cold with allergies, can I take something else tonight like Benedryl?
Cold: Claritin (loratadine) will only relieve symptoms due to allergy not a viral cold. There are OTC medications for cold-related symptoms. Since you have not mentioned any of your symptoms from which you seek relief, Its not possible to make specific recommendation. You may ask your pharmacist for assistance in selecting the best medication for you, especially given your existing meds. ...Read more
Is it okay to take loratadine and Allegra (fexofenadine) together in the morning for combined effectiveness. Should I seek allergy shot. How good is it?
I started taking Claritin (loratadine) 12-hour RediTabs today, but the Claritin (loratadine) is not counteracting my allergies. May I take a 1/2 or 1/4 Chlortrimeton tonight?
I am currently taking one tablet a day of generic form of Claritin for my seasonal allergies. Sometimes they work great other times, like today, they don't work at all. My question is: Should I take more than one dose within 24 hours since they do seem to
Don't exceed dosage: Better not to exceed recommended OTC dosage unless seen by an MD, which you might want to do, as you might need another prescription medication to control your symptoms, goodluck ...Read more
Prob ok: Antihistamines have been around for decades, and certainly many more potent than loratadine. They say worldwide the most common drug taken is diphenhydramine, mostly for the sedative properties (as a sleep aid). Antihistamines can affect certain types of glaucoma, and accentuate urine retention in those with prostate issues and dry mucous membranes, but usually not so much with loratadine per say. ...Read more
Why do you ask?: The advantage of loratadine (and similar antihistamines) is that in recommended doses it doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier and thus are unlikely to cause central nervous system side effects; e.g. usually they don't make you drowsy. This is NOT necessarily true at higher doses, particularly in seniors. Why do you need more? Loratadine is weak. Might try an alternative. ...Read more
