Why did they take 5 vials of bloodwork at my first prenatal visit? How long until i get the results?

Lots of tests: They do a lot of bloodwork during the first prenatal visit - don't worry, that's normal. They're checking for anemia, blood type and lots of other things. Most standard blood tests come back in about a week. I tell my patients if they don't hear after 2 weeks, the should call and check up on the results. ...Read more

What are the exact dates of conception if 22 weeks this week at first prenatal visit?

What are the exact dates of conception if 22 weeks this week at first prenatal visit?

Too late to be exact: At 22 weeks it's too late for ultrasound scans to be very accurate - even in the first few weeks of pregnancy they can be a few days off either way. By 22 weeks even knowing your last period is not easy unless you record your periods every month. Your OB will give an 'estimated' due date, but can't say exactly when you conceived. If it's a paternity question dna paternity testing will be needed. ...Read more
