Many things: Stay hydrated, remain active. Consider adding a fiber supplement like psyllium or methylcellulose. Othewise you could try a surfactant like Colace(though this is a weak option). Minimize Percocet use. If all that doesn't help, you could consider adding a stimulant laxative like senna. The next step may be an osmotic laxative like Miralax. ...Read more

Bowel motility: dysfunction. You are definitely on the right track with all the things you are doing. But there are some people, in spite of that, whose bowels are just sluggish and the smooth muscle within the bowel wall does not work synchronously to move feces along. Sometimes your: colon and intestine secrete some mucous. If this is too much this is not a desired condition. But mucousy stools are usually associated more with diarrhea then constipation. Are you getting enough fiber in your diet? Does anybody else in your family have colon problems? Have you taken a lot of antibiotics? Eat your fiber: Lots of water and fiber are requirements for evryone. If you tend to be constipated then you need more fiber. You masy need to add more metamucil but must also add it to your diet.
