Humidifier & TLC!: Colds in babies can be so hard because there are not many medicines that are safe to use. A simple cool-mist humidifier with plain water can work wonders for your baby's congestion and cough. Also, saline nose drops/spray is really helpful for the stuffy nose. If there is a lot of mucus, a bulb aspirator is useful. Upright positioning for sleep (in a swing or carseat even!) may also help. ...Read more

Fluids/monitor: Your 8 mo is due for 5-7 uri's/yr to age 5 ; most can be monitored at home. Playful times/fluid intake enough to wet diapers every 6hr/breathing not too noticable all suggest home care ok. Lack of play/noticeable increased work to breathe/poor fluid intake all suggest recheck needed.Nasal saline wash out ; vaporizer helps keep the nose clear ; tylenol (acetaminophen) as a comfort med may help. ...Read more

Nasal suction: Use saline nose drops (available over-the-counter) to loosen up the mucous and use a bulb syringe to suction out the nose before each feeding and before laying him down. Babies don't much mind if their nose is runny, but they get very irritable when they can't breathe well! Give him plenty of fluids (his milk, but also some water if needed).
