What Can I Do To Ease My Wandering Mind When Trying To Fall Asleep
Meditate: Try learning how to meditate. Meditation teaches you how to ease the clutter from your mind. A good technique is to use a mantra (repeat a word or phrase) in your mind over and over again. This helps you to block out random thoughts and just focus on the one phrase, such as "i feel calm and relaxed." you can also focus on your breathing or relaxing your muscles. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not uncommon, but no: If you fall asleep during meditation, it may be relaxing you which is not a bad thing. However, if you are sleeping you are not meditating. Many people fall asleep when they meditate before bed, especially if they are lying down. Try a different time of day and an upright position, seated with a straight back. Start slowly, maybe 10 minutes. If you stay awake you can slowly increase your time ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Relaxation: Please look up two things online for instructions - 1. Deep breathing exercises & 2. Progressive muscle relaxation. Both of these work well & can help to quiet your mind. Helpful tip: One thing I have many of my patients due to not specifically clear their mind but put a routine thing in there. The sentence I use is "no ifs, ands, or buts." when you turn off your lights to sleep, you turn on your sentence. Long term rumination: may lead to problems with insomnia. Laying awake for long periods conditions the body and mind to be alert and awake in bed instead of entering sleep. Recommend use of good sleep hygiene (see link in comments section). If worry and rumination are problems consider a consult with a psychologist to learn skills to reduce this issue. If needed, training in good sleep hygiene is also available. ...Read more

I would try good: Sleep hygiene first. How about a relaxing evening routine with a warm bath with lavender scent (or scent of lavender essential oil on his pillow). Keep bedroom dark ; cool. Room should be quiet or have soothing quiet sound. Finish eating at least 2-3 hrs prior to bed. Chamomile drops or warm milk can help. ...Read more
When i go to bed, a particular song keeps coming in my mind, and as a result, i cant fall asleep in time. What should i do to 'shut down' my brain ?
Insomnia: can be difficult to treat. You are likely not ready to go to sleep ( my guess is you force yourself to bed early so you can wake up early for work or school ) One way to combat this is to " pull an all nighter" on the weekend. The next day you'll run out of steam and get sleepy early. If the music persists try a white noise generator at night. ...Read more
