See ORS: Not sure where your old fx. Is located( usually thoracolumar)but not entirely uncommon to be picked up on a radiograph years later.Possibly had an accident in the past and forgot about it or attributed it to 'strain' or other. At any rate, see an ors now who specializes in spinal disorders.Flex/ext. Xrays, MRI and quality physical exam needed. Possible old fx.Not cause of pain now. Gl! ...Read more
This is usually used in describing vertebral fx tho any bone can b fx by a compressive force as in fingers in a door. Spine is the usual. Can b from a fall, mva or in the osteoporotic by a sneeze or cough. The force downward on a vertebra exceeds its strength 2 resist $ & it collapses on itself. Measured by loss of height. I had a compression fracture t12 8 weeks ago. My physiotherapist said in 6 months i can run again but today my doctor said i could already now?
Possible: You're young and should heal relatively quickly, so if the compression fracture was mild and x-rays have been stable and you've been pain free, then i'm not surprised your doctor is allowing you to run. Use common sense though - don't overdo it, and back off if you experience pain. ...Read more
Can you have a compression fracture and not experience any pain? I was in a car accident and didn't experience any pain until about 2 weeks after. When i went to the doctor they did an MRI and said that i had an old compression fracture. Could I have had
Yes, but not at 30: While compression fractures do become more common in post-menopausal women, even without pain or obvious inciting events, it is unusual for a young woman to have a compression fracture unless the accident was severe. You may want to see a bone health specialist to make sure you have normal bone density, to reduce the risk of additional fractures in the future. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Poor question: Please re-ask your question. Just because you have a L1 fracture doesn't mean you have a surgical problem or that someone can fix your back pain surgically. Please be more specific and try to provide details of your problems/pain/etc. I hope you find a md you are happy with. ...Read more
I fell off my m'bike. I have compression fracture t12 vertebra (25% loss of height) how long will it take to heal? The Thai doctor said three weeks.
59 yr F. Recent MRI shows white shadow on 20 y. healed compression fracture of T-11 MRI was due to worsening chronic pain balance issues weakness dulled reflexes
Doctor suggests adding contrast dye to area. (Medadjust?)
2nd opinion please?
Sounds reasonable: Normally, a healed vertebral fracture should have a marrow signal similar to normal bone, and so should not show a "shadow". The contrast will therefore give the radiologist the chance to characterize the area further to make sure it is not a lesion from a cancer, for example. A ct scan might also give further details. It sounds like getting the MRI with contrast is a reasonable next step. ...Read more
A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more
