Can lack of estrogen from being on the continuous bcp cause nose sore in the tip of the nose inside? Does it cause your nasal passage to dry up?

Possibly : Reduced estrogen levels can cause reduced levels of moisture in different areas of the body. The amount of estrogen contained in birth control pills is very small and probably would not be enough to have a dramatic impact for most women. Being 35 y/o, it is possible you are entering peri-menopause. This is a time in which women can have fluctuations in estrogen and particularly progesterone. ...Read more

Throat is red but not really sore. Only one nasal passage is red but I don't have a fever. I have crusty yellow boogers in the nose with a red passage?

URI: How long have you had the red throat & nose? Most upper respiratory conditions start as viruses. It usually takes 7 -10 days before becoming bacterial. You should take throat lozenges, gargle salt water, drink lots of fluids, use nasal saline, take acetaminophen or ibuprofen if you develop discomfort. If it gets progressively worse, you need to see MD for exam, culture, and possibly antibiotics. ...Read more

I have empty nasal syndrome, what is the best solution to keep nasal passage wet? Its getting dry and block often.

Irrigate: I assume that by saying empty nasal syndrome you mean that you have had multiple sinus surgeries and have chronic nasal crusting and dryness. Unfortunately that is a consequence of outdated sinus surgery, though at the time this was thought to be the best modality. Irrigating often with a high flow saline irrigation, much more than simple ocean spray is typically quite helpful. I like the neilmed system that can be purchased from the grocery store and is inexpensive. Seeing your physician and considering adding pulmicort, something typically used to treat asthma or emphysema by inhalation into the lungs can be quite helpful with this condition. ...Read more

Dryness: Your mucus membranes in the nasal passages may be too dry and this makes them susceptible to infections(small pustules). You also may catch more colds. To avoid such dryness, lower your thermostat and you may need a humidifier during the winter. Try coating the insides of your nostril with a very thin film of vaseline daily. ...Read more
