While just pain and swelling alon can redurce motion, oif it is not getting better an evaluation and an xray may be needed. You should visit the ER to make sure your finger is neurovascularly intact meaning there is blood flow to the finger and the nerves are functioning. You may require some x rays of your hand to make sure you did not fracture one of your phalanges. You also may need a tetanus shot. The subungual hematoma should be drained as well. Good luck. Its good to splint -: To prevent from hurting her finger further, and to decrease the pain; but I would recommend her seeing an orthopod to get an xray, to ensure there is no broken bone or joint injury, or a tendon injury, as these would need to be treated properly, to avoid long term problems.

Most likely better: Numbness is due to injuring the nerve. Nerves usually do recover from crushing injuries -- of course worse injuries are harder to recover from. It takes quite a long time, though. I think you're finger is going to be ok with more time. ...Read more

It might be broken: Ctush injuries to the hand are very common and doors are a huge culprit. If there is persistent throbbing there probably is associated soft tissue and bone injury.
