The answer is: a number of OTC (Over the Counter) medications can help . Probably the most effective is plain old ASPIRIN Two regular strength Aspirin every 6 hours...This is "First Aid" not true TREATMENT! See your Health Care Professional if the swelling persists. More info?: This could be gout, though there would usually be redness. Rheumatoid arthritis comes to mind but usually no sudden onset and generally more joints that one small finger joint. It would be good to know if there's been any recent trauma, spider bite, stick with a thorn? Does finger ever get stuck when bent? ...Read more

Move fingers: After rotator cuff surgery the arm and hand can swell. Keeping the elbow hand and fingers moving will help with the drainage. If it doesnt help you can see your doctor or therapist about a compression glove. ...Read more

Maybe: The description of your symptoms is not a common presentation for a rotator cuff problem. The first thing that comes to my mind with this description is a vascular issue. I think of things like upper extremity deep venous thrombosis and thoracic outlet syndrome. I would have this issue evaluated by a primary care provider soon. ...Read more

No not normal: There are four main signs of inflammation: pain, heat, redness, and swelling. Those are signs that the immune system is activated. After a surgery there can be inflammation and it's normal for a few days. If it is present a month later it is concerning that there is either infection, or some kind of immune activation.
