Lately my bowels have been extremely sore. I feel like I need to use the restroom more and my rectum is slightly protruding. What can this be?

Rectal prolapse: Without seeing you, my best guess is either a rectal prolapse or swollen hemorrhoids. Rectal prolapse is when the rectum pushes to the outside, and it can be just a bit or quite a lot. However, swollen hemorrhoids can appear similar to folks who aren't specialists. See a colorectal surgeon, who will be able to evaluate your concerns and guide you about treatment. ...Read more

Epididymitis: See your doctor and get a testicular/rectal exam and urinalysis and urine culture. You might have epididymitis/orchitis (infection or inflammation of epididymis or testicle) and/or prostatitis (infection/inflammation of the prostate). Either may require treatment with antibiotics. If you are having trouble peeing this can also be sign of prostatitis. But you must see your doctor. ...Read more

Used an anal plug 2 days ago. Haven't had symptoms but today my rectum has been a little sore. I have gone #2 fine many time no blood. Rectal perf?

Sore is not perf....: Rectal Perforation is not 'sore'. It is emergent, life threatening and bloody. So, if you are otherwise just a bit sore you have not perforated your anus. Another common scenario with anal sexual play is the chance of tearing the lining of the colon or rectum. This is a fissure and is also not a perforation. ...Read more

Had a colonoscopy a 2 week ago. A large polyp was removed 5 inches inside , no problems until last few days , very sore in the rectum , no blood .

Getting better/worse: ?? if worse, would definitely go see your GI doc. did you get constipated after the procedure perhaps? sometimes straining can lead to more painful hemorrhoids. Make sure you know what your polyp was as well (tubular adenoma, tubulovilleous adenoma, any dysplastic changes) and when they want you back. ...Read more

I have a small pea size bump right near my rectum been there a few months but now it is sore and like a small pimple should I go to dr and whatkind dr?

Anal sores/bumps: Could you be referring to fissures, fistula, abscess? Sexually transmitted disease (syphilis, gc, hiv, etc.) should be considered. Hemorrhoids ; rectal prolapse can appear as an outward bulging. Anal trauma of any kind may cause mechanical injury. Skin eruptions need to be considered. Evaluation is recommended to distinguish serious versus less concerning reasons for your problem as described. ...Read more

Hello. : Hello. I can't diagnose the bump. However, it could be a small external hemorrhoid. If you are constipated, it can increase the chances of getting a hemorrhoid. Recommend that you drink at least 8 8 ounce glasses of water per day. Recommend 5 servings of vegetables and 4 servings of fruit per day. It is really important to get adequate fiber in your diet and to try to avoid junk food if possible. If it continues to grow, you can have it examined to determine if it is a hemmorhoid or a different type of lesion. ...Read more

You sound: seriously constipated. Consider a change in diet, avoiding complex carbs and taking in more stone fruits and their juices. You may also need a daily dose of PEG 3350 and/or Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) to soften your stools so that you are going more frequently and not passing such large ones. ...Read more

Probably not from bx: Biopsies of the GI tract typically does not cause pain. You may be feeling discomfort from hemorrhoids that may have been irritated by your bowel prep. Try some aloe wipes and topical creams. If this persists however call your colonoscopist. ...Read more

I have a small sore on the skin between my rectum and vagina that hurts really bad when I use the bathroom or clean myself . any idea of what could be?

Could be infection?: That area of your anatomy can devlop infection of skin glands which requires quick medical attention. You need to either go to your PCP or go see a gynecologist so that they can check you and, if needed give you antibiotics. Delays in seeking medical treatment can cause rupture of the infected area( possible abscess) and lead to further complications. ...Read more

6 year old having endoscopy/colonoscopy will she be sore afterwards ? I heard your throat and rectum would be. How do I prepare her for this?

Not necessarily...: Typically, your child will be sedated during the test ; will have no recollection of it. Afterward, he/she may burp or pass flatus from air used during the exam to inflate the GI tract. Since we don't know circumstances as to why your child needs testing its impossible to predict findings nor anticipate what else may be present that can contribute to post-testing soreness/discomfort. Best wishes. ...Read more
