If an x-ray doesn't show a problem, you may need an MRI or a CT scan. It could be an ankle sprain or a syndesmotic injury or a Lisfranc injury or an undiagnosed fracture. ...Read more

Possibly a peroneal tendinitis. There is a peroneus longus muscle tendon that runs behind the outer ankle bone (fibula, lateral malleolus).
This usually occurs due to overuse, meaning a patient/athlete does repetitive activities that irritate the tendon over long periods of time.
See a podiatrist for evaluation and treatment ...Read more

Varicose Veins : You have back flow of the veins in your legs. This causes the bulging and swelling in the leg and foot due to excess fluid in the leg that normally would be moved out by the veins. Which doctor is better at popping an ankle back into place (more experience, training etc) dpm or orthopedic surgeon with foot ankle residency?

Training: An orthopaedic surgeon with a foot and ankle fellowship has undergone many more years of training than a podiatrist. Most podiatrists have little experience with trauma er work, such as what you describe with reduction of an ankle fracture-dislocation. Orthopedic surgeons are also more familiar with treating these unstable injuries with surgery. ...Read more

Had ankle fracture yr ago. Some stiffness, swelling. Most pain front of joint when bending knes over foot. Some popping and pain near inside archilles?

Get a recheck: Stiffness, pain, and swelling are common symptoms after an ankle fracture, even if it is healed. My toe nail fungus has progressed to very swollen feet and ankles with (dead skin?) or some solid white stuff popping out everywhere. Need help! Jim

Tophaceous Gout: Tinea unguium (fungal nail infection) is very unlikely to be involved in the swelling. Assuming this is gout, you need to be placed on a xanthine oxidase inhibitor to deal with the uric acid levels which cause gout. ...Read more
