What Can Cause White Blood Cells To Be High
Pyuria: White blood cells in urine usually are there because of an infection in the urinary tract. However, they can also be there in large numbers in a female when there is a vaginal infection or when she is having her period (always see red cells also in this situation). My best advice is to see your doctor and have a urine culture done to see what is going on. ...Read more

My daughters b-12 level is on the high side but her white blood cells are normal. What should be her next step to find out the cause of her high b-12?
Proteinuria/pyuria: Leucocytes are white blood cells (wbcs). So, high protein and high wbcs equals infection until proven otherwise by a negative urine culture. Take infection out of the equation, then some time or damage to the kidney filters is next on my list, but when this happens there is usually red cells in the urine. This takes me back to urine infection or some other type of genitourinary infection. ...Read more

Leukemia: Bone marrow malignancies involving the myeloid cells will cause abnormal growth of a certain clone of white cells and inhibit the proliferation of normal cell populations such as platelet precursors and red cell precursors so anemia would be expected also. Severe infection with septicemia could lead to the same problem via destruction of platelets in small blood vessels. Two very different cases! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
10 month old had 2 uti's , had symptoms for #3 in less 2 months.. On meds. Culture neg, waiting to do tests could teething cause high white blood cells?
No: Teething does not cause an elevation of your white blood cell count. An elevated WBC count a this age is almost always due to an infection somewhere, and with a history of uti's already i would be looking in this area. It could be a kidney abcess, blood infection, or infection totally somewhere else in the body. There are other more rare causes of elevated wbc's, but teething is not one of them. ...Read more
What can cause my platelets, white blood cells and red blood cells are all high causing leukocytosis, mild thrombocytosis and macrocytes?
Inflammation : Macrocytes are white blood cells too. Also depends how high they are. Very mild elevation like 10-13 for WBC and 400-450 for platelets could be lab variations too. If mild to moderate suggests inflammation which can be from infection, autoimmune disorders. If very high, blood disorders are a concern. Whomever ordered the test should follow up with u. ...Read more

Can 600mg of gabapentin, 40mg of prozac, and 20mg of ritalin (methylphenidate) cause white blood cells to be 16.8. I take Prozac and ritalin (methylphenidate) in am and gabapentin in pm.
I have researched: This and all three drugs have been shown to rarely cause elevated white blood cell counts. Have your family doctor evaluate you and send you to a hematologist if it is felt to be necessary, although the count is not that high and should probably be followed to see if you are in the process of developing an infection somewhere or if it will spontaneously return to normal. Best wishes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
