I fainted at a club last night. Had a few sips of a drink but im on amoxicillin for sore throat. I'm an SVT heart patient with pacemaker. What happen?

Cardiologist: See your cardiologist! The sips of a drink and the Amoxicillin probably did not cause your episode. With a pacemaker history, that episode requires further analysis by your cardiologist to make sure it wasn't an arrhythmia. Good luck! ...Read more

Pacemaker (Definition)

A pacemaker is a device which sends electrical signals to the heart triggering heartbeats when needed. There are many ways to implant and configure a pacemaker; it may beat the top chambers (atria), lower chambers (ventricles) or both. Some systems stimulate both the left and right ventricles together. Pacemakers generally treat abnormally slow heart rhythms and certain ...Read more

Have a pacemaker. I'm 36. Its working great but have been having aching pains from my neck down my left arm?

May not be related: Depending on where your pacemaker is placed and how long ago, and whether chest or arm motion affects the symptoms, the pacemaker may or may not be related to your symptoms. The symptoms may be musculoskeletal or related to a primary neck problem, but you should talk to your doctor and/or the implanting cardiologist and have them confirm or deny the relationship. ...Read more

Does pacemaker cause any problems with airport metal detectors?

Does pacemaker cause any problems with airport metal detectors?

Yes: You need to be hand screened -- and remember to tell them when you arrive. It will set them off -- and that will just delay you. You will be hand-screened or searched. The microwave technology does not do a good job determining what the pacemaker is, although it is getting better. ...Read more

Grandma took a. 25 mi walk Later in the evening started coughing Worse this morning Cant get out of bed Is 89 and has a pacemaker cause for concern?

Yes: Hi. Yes, that is cause for concern. Cough is nonspecific, and can represent diverse problems including pneumonia, asthma, congestive heart failure, or simply a cold. At her age, there could be any number of things wrong. It would be wise to get her to her doctor who knows her medical history and can do appropriate diagnostics. Good luck to her! ...Read more

What is thachy_brady syndrome? Is it the cause of pacemaker implantation by the kind of pacemaker used? Single or dual chamber. Thank you

What is thachy_brady syndrome? Is it the cause of pacemaker implantation by the kind of pacemaker used? Single or dual chamber. Thank you

Fast and slow!: Tachy-brady means sometimes the heart goes too fast and other times too slow. We need a pacemaker to prevent the slow beats so we can more safely give medication to control the fast beats. The type of pacemaker depends on what type of rhythms are involved. Usually it's dual chamber unless someone is in atrial fibrillation all the time. ...Read more

What causes pacemakers to work?

What causes pacemakers to work?

Pacemakers: A pacemaker is a battery driven device. It is actually a small computer. Some of its functions are like a radio receiver, its pacing function is just delivering a tiny shock to the heart. A defibrillator delivers a bigger shock to the heart. ...Read more

Would a delay in performing pacemaker implantation cause permanent complications?

Would a delay in performing pacemaker implantation cause permanent complications?

Why do you need it?: If you're passing out with long pauses in your rhythm, delaying implantation could be lethal. If your symptoms are infrequent and mild, delay is acceptable. It all depends on the indication. ...Read more

Told I need a pacemaker to treat bradycardia. Recently found out I've had long term exposure to mold. Could that be the cause of the bradycardia?

Low likelihood: It's possible for toxins to cause that symptom and certain molds are among the ones considered, but correction efforts are your issue now. It's good to avoid mold! Now, follow the treatment plan to deal w/ your heart. Unless you have an air-tight, high $ law suit re the mold - the causes are not foremost now. ...Read more

Can a heart pacemaker stimulate the vagus nerve and cause other problems?

Can a heart pacemaker stimulate the vagus nerve and cause other problems?

No: Cardiac pacemakers maintain and encourage normal heart rhythms, and are used to treat abnormal heart beat patterns. The vagus nerve is stimulated by a vagal nerve stimulator used over the left vagus, which does not have cardiac innervation, and this device helps control seizures. ...Read more

Pain in peroneal tendon area for 2 yrs, can't have MRI cause of pacemaker. How do I know if torn?

Clinical exam: Truth is we didn't always have the luxury of mri's. So, a good clinician and a good history together can make an assumption. You have pain - so the question really is how to get you out of the pain. Assume, there is a tear. Start with conservative treatment and if it doesn't improve you have a surgical option. ...Read more

I have a pacemaker (icd) can I saftley make a tattoo? The machine can cause problems for the icd if I do it on the same side as the pacemaker?

Caution: The tattoo machine is quite unlikely to cause electrical problems for your device. I would avoid tattoos, however, especially near or on the same side as the ICD because this increases the risk of infection. I would generally advise people not to do this. ...Read more

Parent had pacemaker put in due to low heart rate (30's-40's). Had high BP and is overweight. What are the likely causes of decreased heart rate?

Slow heart rate: Just answered this earlier. We had no definite cause to this. The sinus node, or the heart pacer is just simply slow in firing, could have been from previous ischemia but we can't say for certain. It is not a common condition but we see it enough and yes more in the elderly, so the ischemic theory probably is true. ...Read more

I have a pacemaker set for 60 BPM and I have been getting dizzy spells. When I check my pulse it seems regular, what else could cause this?

I have a pacemaker set for 60 BPM and I have been getting dizzy spells. When I check my pulse it seems regular, what else could cause this?

Dizziness: Well, the simple fact that you have a pacemaker tells us you have significant heart issues. Assuming no cardiac causes, a quick thought is to consider your medications - BP meds can often cause dizziness. Other non cardiac causes include sinus allergies, inner ear problems, or metabolism issues (ie thyroid disease). Your best bet is to discuss this with your pcp or cardiologist. Best regards! ...Read more

Hereditary causes of sinus bradycardia? Mine is the most severe requiring a pacemaker, but mother and uncle (not fit) also have bradycardia. Any link?

Yes, could be.: Asymptomatic sinus bradycardia is often a sign of good physical conditioning.
However, it can be pathologic, symptomatic, and potentially life-threatening.
Unexplained sinus bradycardia is associated with a mutation in the gene (HCN) that encodes the pacemaker channel, the channel responsible for sinus-node activity.

They may need genetic testing. ...Read more

Question?: It sounds like you had a hemothorax (blood in the chest) after a pacemaker insertion, which is a possible complication. The chest tube was placed to drain the blood. The site of the chest tube closes over time. A 10cm hole in your lung would pretty much span the entire lung width. If the chest tube has been removed, the situation should resolve. ...Read more

Can you tell me about pacemaker?

Pacemaker: A pacemaker is an electronic device which uses a lead as an antenna to sense the heart's electrical activity. It uses the same lead (s) to deliver a small electrical impulse to the heart to make it contract if the heart isn't going as fast as the device was programmed to maintain. Pacemakers both sense heart activity and pace it to produce activity. They maintain heart rate. Other things too.... ...Read more

Can you tell me about pacemakers?

Can you tell me about pacemakers?

Sure I can: They are used if the heart is beating too slow. Electrodes are inserted into the heart through a vein usually in the area of the clavicle. They are attached to a battery which sends an electric current down the wires. This causes the heart to contract. We can set the rate so that the heart will beat faster. Also the device senses if your heart beats on its own and is in that case inhibited. ...Read more
