Hi. Can a women or a men develop HPV without sexual contact. If the couple has it does it mean that one of the two slept with someone else who has it?
HPV transmission: Although HPV is mainly considered a sexually transmitted disease, there is some evidence of some transmission during exposure during rough play such as wrestling or contact sports. This is one of the reasons the Gardasil vaccine for HPV prevention is administered to boys and girls as early as 11 years of age. Hope this helps. Read more
I am 16, female. Never had sexual contact before. Would there be any way to know if I'm infected with hpv???
Unlikely...: It is very unlikely to have HPV if you have never had sex before. Even if you did in most cases at your age your body gets rid of it by the age of 21, reason why the American Academy of Gynecology does not recommend getting regularly tested for this until you reach that age regardless of sexual activity, Read more
This may seem a strange question, but can a person get HPV from just shaking hands with someone who has it? (or other non sexual contact)
Not genital strain: There are in excess of 100 strains of HPV with more than a dozen involved with genital transfer. The strains tend to be specific to a tissue area, so genital strains stay there (or transfer to some oral tissues). There are also strains that cause common regular skin warts, which could pass from skin to skin contact like a handshake. You don't pass genital strains with a handshake. Is there a way to contract HPV without being sexually active? My sister was diagnosed with HPV recently, which has made me very confused. I know for a fact that she is not sexually active, has never had sex, no oral, and no sexual contact. I'm so confused
Hello.: Hello. There are many different strains of human papilloma virus (hpv). They cause warts. For instance hpv1 is a cause for warts on the feet (plantars warts). You could have hpv on your thumb - that means you have a wart. Saying that someone has hpv doesn't mean that it has to be sexually spread or on the genitals. I hope this was helpful. Take care. I'm 16 female and never had any sexual contact. If I touch my genitals and then my nose or mouth unconciously, would there be any problem with HPV?
Highly unlikely: You would definitely not have vaginal or cervical HPV infection, but it is conceivable, but unlikely, that touching your oral cavity if you have HPV there and then touching your genitals could do this, but again, this is very very improbable and would not worry. Best wishes. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Many: Miscalculation is a frequent cause for concern. But physiological causes include stress, acute illness, poor diet and/or eating disorders, obesity with or without polycystic ovaries, and thyroid conditions. Premature menopause would be very unusual at your age, though more likely if your mom or close relative had this. Also, competitive athletes often have irregular and sometimes no menses. Read more

I'm throwing up the day after sexual contact, assuming it's all in my head, but want to check that there isn't a physical cause?
Vomiting: Although anxiety can cause vomiting, there usually is a physical reason for it instead. Perhaps you've picked up a viral gastroenteritis. Sexual activity should not cause vomiting the next day. If your vomiting persists for more than 2 to 3 days, you should see your doctor. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. Good luck. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Any Direct Contact: Genital herpes is essentially spread by direct contact with an infectious area. It is very common and easy spread. Genital herpes can be spread even if you or your partner don't see any sores - orally or genitally. Valtrex (valacyclovir) has been shown to reduce, not eliminate the risk for asymptomatic transmission. Condoms can help but contact outside of the condom covered areas can result in infection. I have pcos for 3yrs. Last sunday I was diagnosed w/ cervicitis. I had no sexual contact with my fiance since he is overseas. What could be the cause?
Cervicitis: Cervicitis need not be always due to an infectious agent; often, hormonal variations can cause the otherwise well lubricated cervical os and upper vagina to undergo changes in texture, thickness, and moisture content. Give your gynecologist a call to explain his findings and, given your history of pcos, recommend a treatment plan. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Foul yellow discharge returning, already treated for chlamydia what is the cause? I've had no sexual contact. And my check up results were negative.
Recheck: Go back to doctor. Yeast (chlamydia) which you were treated for usually gives a white usually odorless discharge.Trichomonas (a protozoa) usually gives a frothy greenish yellow discharge with foul odor and itching. Bacterial vaginosis gives a thin milky fishy odor discharge. The treatment is not the same for all types so go to your gyn. Hope you feel better soon. Read more
