What can cause a lump in the throat feeling w/ extra saliva? It's making me nauseous. I try to burp it away, but it doesn't help. Stress? Indigestion?

Reflux: The lump i'm the throat feeling is most likely from reflux. Stay away from acidic foods and eat healthier and you should be ok. The lump in the throat is due to the spasm of the cricopharyngeal muscle which is the upper esophageal sphincter. When there is acid in the lower esophagus it will tighten and cause that sensation. Globus sensation: This is a common sensation that is poorly understood. It's not dangerous, and may be related to stress. It is often seen in people with reflux disease. Drainage, inflamed: This sensation is often caused by sinus drainage that causes inflammation in the back of the throat. This can cause a sensation of "fullness" in the back of the throat. Another thing that can cause this is reflux (acid, heartburn). Try an antihistamine (zyrtec, allegra, etc) and some saline nasal spray for a few days. If reflux is possible, add a Pepcid - if that doesn't help, see your doctor. ...Read more

Dysphagia: Yes. feels like something stuck. Many times is due to reflux, try ranitidine or prevecid and see if resolves. May need EGD to look for stricture that can cause it, Aklternatively may need speech therapy for dysfunctional swallowing due to muscles. Unlikely cancer: Tongue, mouth & throat cancer are all very rare especially in someone your age. Cancer is usually painless & does not cause a sore throat.
