If a person got shot on the chest/stomach what are the chances they can survive without going to hospital?
It depends......: Energy transfered to the body from a projectile (bullet) depends on the mass (weight) and velocity (speed). Low-caliber (bb/pellet) guns can penetrate the body but in general the patient should survive. In contrast, higher caliber projectiles can cause direct damage to tissue and indirect damage due to the cavitation (pressure wave). These can be fatal no matter where you are struck. The right side of my stomach is swollen and when I press on the swollen side it hurts. Should I go to the hospital?
Just came back from hospital after having surgery on my stomach and I have bandages all over, just wondering how I can shower?
Showering: Well, it's a standard of care to provide the patient with postsurgical instructions especially after a major surgery in the hospital. Cannot believe it didn't happen in your case. If indeed it didn't, then you will need to call your surgeon's office and ask them what they want you to do. There are different instructions commensurate to the nature of the surgery. ...Read more

Should I go to the hospital. I don't know what to do? I had a question about this pain I had in my stomach. It's on both sides on of my lower part of my stomach and then around the middle."
Hello. I see there is a tag for "chest pain". So I will start by listing some of the symptoms of a mycocardial infarction (heart attack). Chest pain, tightness, squeezing or fullness is the most common presentation. However the pain can also present in the upper back, the upper middle abdomen, jaw, head, teeth or in the arms (left more than right). One could have nausea, vomiting or it could feel like indigestion or heartburn. Feeling short of breath, sweating and just feeling out of sorts can also occur. About a fourth of people have no significant symptoms during a heart attack.
However, I also see that most of what you have discussed is about abdominal pain. If you have severe abdominal pain, it should be evaluated by a doctor (preferrably a surgeon).
So, if you have chest pain with symptoms suggestive of a heart attack, or if you have severe abdominal pain - you need to be seen asap. If you think you have a heart attack then call 911. ...Read more
Depends: It depends on the severity of the pain and truly how long it has lasted. If it has been consistent (non-stop) pain after 2-3 days then I would go see a doctor. I am going to be having an abdominal total hysterectomy due to endometriosis. What can I expect as far as hospital stay and recovery?
2-4 days in hospital: If possible consider a second opinion. If in fact a hysterectomy is needed at this time, look to a minimally invasive procedure such as laparoscopic or robotic. The visualization is better, the ability to remove endometriosis implants improved, and with smaller, less painful scars you can often be discharge on the same day or the next day after surgery. Recovery is typically 6 weeks vs 1-2 weeks. ...Read more
I went to the hospital for pain on my right abdomen. Was diagnosed with a UTI. I kept getting constant high fevers. How can I prevent a UTI?
My stomach fluid was reabsorbed before they could test the fluid in a recent 4 day hospital stay. Should I be concerned it's cancer related?
Depends: This depends upon the type and quantity of fluid and the setting in which it was present. I am assuming this is fluid within the abdomen outside of the stomach. Example benign causes of fluid in the abdomen include: liver disease, infection/inflammation, and recent ovulation. This is a question best answered by your PCP. They can review all of the available information and help with any concerns. ...Read more
