Why could malnutrition cause anovulation?

Why could malnutrition cause anovulation?

Stress response: Malnutrition, whether due to famine, intestinal disease, anorexia nervosa, or extreme dieting, is physically stressful to the body, and results in high levels of cortisol. High cortisol levels suppress the pituitary hormones that trigger ovulation. This is beneficial in the long run because it lowers birth rates in times of famine, and reduces the number of deaths from starvation. ...Read more

I've heard of women using femaprin (vitex) pills for anovulation. Do they work?

I've heard of women using femaprin (vitex) pills for anovulation. Do they work?

No evidence it helps: There is some scientific evidence that vitex agnus-castus (chaste tree berry) may help with pms symptoms and cyclic mastalgia (breast pain) but no studies showing that it helps women with ovulation disorders. If you aren't ovulating regularly and are trying to conceive the safety of vitex when you're pregnant is unknown, so you should stop it when you get a positive pregnancy test if you conceive. ...Read more

Is anovulation normal for a 27 year old women? And if that happens that means you can't get pregnant right?

No!: It's not really normal for any reproductive-age woman, but especially in a 27 year old. Anovulation does not mean you can't (ever) get pregnant, that depends on the reason for the anovulation - you may well require a doctor's help but in most cases it should be possible. ...Read more
