Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more

I have a blood clots in my lung and calf of my leg. Am I not allowed to exercise so not to shift the clots upwards?
Only temporarily: In the short term, it is advisable to avoid strenous activity in an effort to prevent movement of the clots. Generally, after you have been on appropriate blood thinners for a reasonable amount of time, your doctor will clear you to participate in normal levels of activity. In fact, as you recover, activity can help reduce your risk of developing swelling in your legs. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Blood clots in my leg and lung. So. With Coumadin (warfarin) being given. What procedures can be done to fix the one in my leg? Or lung?
Anticoagulation: Anticoagulation with the Coumadin (warfarin) for 3-6 months is pretty much your best bet for treatment of those clots. I am guessing you were in the hospital at first and had overlapping injections for several days as well? Sometimes an inferior vena cava filter will be placed when there is some contraindication for anticoagulation, but other than that procedures aren't typically pursued. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Stage 4 lung cancer no chemo tumor grew & cancer spread, clinical trial only now, on oxygen for sob, blood clots in legs, what is life expectancy?
Hard to say/depends.: At this stage of lung cancer, the options are limited as is survival. If treatment is done, it's usually chemotherapy and radiation and/or surgery after adjuvant chemotherapy. There are certainly trials out there and I would recommend talking to your doctor before starting any, but the chance for success is likely limited, as the 5 year survival of stage IV is <5%, but it doesn't hurt to try. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sometimes when the clot is very high up and extends above the top of the leg, the clot might be removed mechanically with a clot dissolver. Once that is done, a person still needs to be on blood thinners though. ...Read more
