How can you stop pumpkin (carotene) turning skin orange, aside from not eating it eg adding fat to it, taking laxatives, mineral oil etc?
If 100grm of squash has 100% RDI of carotene, how much roughly could be eaten daily without skin yellowing? Would mineral oil stop absorption much?
All you want.: 1st, there is no official RDI for carotene; everybody has a different number. 2nd, I've never seen carotenosis from squash (and my daughter, a vegetarian, eats a TON of it). 3rd, carotenosis due to eating vegetables is harmless, so if you somehow eat enough squash to yellow your skin, cutting back will reverse it. So eat what you want. Mineral oil would have no significant effect on absorption. ...Read more
Can the ingredient Paraffinum liquidum aka mineral oil in a hair stying product cause hair to thin or come out on the hairline or whole head? Thanks
I don't think good: Mineral oil is prob diff to get out, will block your pores and get stuck in hair follicles. Need a gentle cleaning agent not a lubricant. In upstate NY I had a patient who had arthritis in his knees and used WD40 on them. Prob not good to breathe that stuff. Hair needs to be cleaned without drying out. Scalp should be cleaned. Min Oil not the answer. ...Read more

My 17month old child was exposed to lamp oil on his skin. He has broken out in a rash. I gave him a bath. What else should I do? What if he ate some?
Toxic substance: Scented and unscented lamp oil is kerosene without the bad smell. But contrary to popular belief, the additives (benzene, naphtha) that masks the smell makes lamp oil potentially dangerous, and if absorbed by the skin and mucous membranes it could be harmful.
