Unusual: It depends where the pain is. If it is in the scalp or along the pathway of the shunt-this may be some local irritation of the tissue around the shunt. If there is abdominal pain this may be from irritation of the peritoneum by the distal shunt catheter. If it is inside the head , like a pressure sensation-this may be intermittent build-up of fluid before the shunt valve is "triggered" to drain. ...Read more
