Not usually: Although never say never...It is not my observance that this is a major way to present and I have a large HIV practice in ft. Lauderdale..Pretty much ground zero for HIV infections so to speak. Fever, chills, night sweats, weight loss, thrush and swollen lymph nodes are a common presentation. Diarrhea as well. Gave unprotected oral sex to a man in January. He was tested for hiv two months after his last encounter. Negative. I haven't had symptoms. Am I ok?

Most likely: However, HIV window period can be as long as a 6 months between infection and one of the older, less sensitive tests turning positive. And since you are sexually active - my recommendation is to tested regularly - and your PCP should be doing precisely that. ...Read more

I read flu and early HIV symptoms are similar.I had a cold/flu about 2 weeks after sharing a cigarette with a gay man.How can you tell the difference?

Early HIV symptoms: You can't tell difference between influenza (flu) & early HIV symptoms so prevention is best bet. With that said, you can't get HIV by sharing a cigarette so don't sweat it. On the other hand, if you've engaged in other practices (such as unprotected sex) that increase your risk for HIV & other stds, go see your family doc (or planned parenthood or county std clinic) for testing. ...Read more

Uncircumcised?: Men who are uncircumcised are at higher risk for acquiring HIV from vaginal sex than men who are circumcised. Are gay men realy more likley to contarct hiv?

Are gay men realy more likley to contarct hiv?

Not the key: Receptive unprotected anal intercourse with a HIV-positive partner with an infection that's not well under control is the riskiest sexual practice for HIV transmission, significantly. LGBT covers a huge variety of practices and preferences, and simply having the orientation does not create any risk whatever. Most gay men nowadays "play safe" and are at no more risk than others. ...Read more

Can HIV cause men to be infertile?

Maybe, other concerns: While there is some evidence that HIV may affect fertility, it is far from clear that it does. People who get HIV are also more likely to have stis such as gonorrhea and chlamydia that definately do, and HIV drugs can be an issue. The real concern is the risk of transmitting HIV to ones partner and there are assisted reproductive technologies that may reduce that risk. ...Read more

I've read that the risk of HIV is higher in gay men. Is that true? If so, why?

I've read that the risk of HIV is higher in gay men. Is that true? If so, why?

Wrong to generalize: Passive, unprotected anal intercourse with a HIV-positive partner is an especially dangerous practice, and nowadays in the US around 50% of new HIV infections are in men who do this. The orientation itself doesn't create the risk, and partnered or safety-focused gay men are not at any special risk. And worldwide, most HIV is transmitted through heterosexual sex. Huge topic. Be fair & informed. ...Read more

Can u get HIV from anal sex but both men don't have HIV
