Does the drug clopidogrel, blood thinner have side effect of making the brain hemmorhage if you take it for a long time?

Yes: Clopidogrel and any blood thinner always caries a risk of any kind of hemmorhage but generally the risk is low and less than the risk of a problem that the clopidogrel is trying to prevent. However in my career I have seen 2 or 3 cases of bone marrow failure in patients who have taken clopidogrel for a long period of time. ...Read more

Had blood clot in right leg on blood thinner, tonite had sharpe pain top of right hip and lower right side of tummy. What could b the cause of pain?

DId it go away?: If the pain went away within an hour or so, it's unlikely to be anything serious. These would be reasons to seek prompt medical attention, in case your blood thinner medication needs to be adjusted. ...Read more

Artificial vs tissue aortic valve replacement. Is it worth it to do tissue when it will have to be redone in 10 to 12 years? Effects of blood thinner?

Artificial vs tissue aortic valve replacement. Is it worth it to do tissue when it will have to be redone in 10 to 12 years? Effects of blood thinner?

Depends.....: Depends on age, lifestyle and need or not for anticoagulant for other reasons. Coumadin (warfarin) is not without risk, while the risk for re-replacement of a tissue aortic valve is not high. So if you are relatively young (<60), don't need Coumadin (warfarin) or don't want to take it, it would be very reasonable to have a tissue valve with the understanding that you will probably require another replacement. ...Read more
