What are the common types of leukemia for a 25 year old?

What are the common types of leukemia for a 25 year old?

Several...: It's difficult to say in just a few words but, generally speaking, at young ages, leukemias are more likely to be of the acute rather than chronic type. In terms of cell of origin, they can be lymphoid or myeloid, so most of the time at this age it will be acute lymphoid (lymphoblastic, all) or acute myeloid leukemia (aml). Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is also possible but not as common. ...Read more

For acute myelogeous leukemia in a 24-year-old?

Generally speaking- in majority cases would need to get a combination of chemo as an induction then plus minus stem cell transplantation. A derivative of vitamin a- sometimes is given to certain case of aml. Discuss in detail with your oncologist. ...Read more

My 12 year old's ANC has varied from 1341 down to 918, up to 2378 down to 805 over 6mths. If it were caused by leukemia would it go up and down?

My 12 year old's ANC has varied from 1341 down to 918, up to 2378 down to 805 over 6mths. If it were caused by leukemia would it go up and down?

No.: Leukemia will cause a low neutrophil count. And over the course of 6 months, leukemia will be very obvious. It would not only cause a low neutrophil count at that point. It would also cause low platelets (which causes bruising and bleeding) and low hemoglobin (which causes fatigue). ...Read more

How long might an 85 year old male survive leukemia without chemo?

What are reasons that a 19 yr old all leukemia patient who achieved remission through chemo be unable to have it again when he relapses a year later?

Possible of a 19 year old getting chronic lymphatic leukaemia or any other leukemia? Few symptoms plus 'raised lymphocytes' on first blood test

Stop worrying: I understand your concern. An elevated percent lymphocytes means nothing without another red flag. An elevation in absolute lymphocytes probably means you are getting a cold. You're too young for cll. If you had acute leukemia or another, the lab would flag the abnormal lymphocytes. If you sense your fear of leukemia is irrational, talk with your physician -- happens to many of us. Good luck. ...Read more

What are pros cons of drug procrit (epoetin alfa) to treat 88 year-old man whose chronic leukemia is now becoming acute where he needs transfusions every two weeks?

What are pros cons of drug procrit (epoetin alfa) to treat 88 year-old man whose chronic leukemia is now becoming acute where he needs transfusions every two weeks?

Limited value: Procrit (epoetin alfa) is commonly used in patients with cancer. But it is not always effective as it helps to raise red cell counts (hb) in most pateints but takes 4-6 weeks before it has any visible benefit. A patient with acute leukemia has more urgent needs which are best met with a blood transfusion as needed. But his age is against him to achieve much benefit from anything further that can be done for him. ...Read more

My 5 year old daughter has a paratrecheal mass in one lung. What could this be? We have been told it was hystoplasmosis, leukemia, or tuberculosis.

Paratracheal mass: I don't believe that any of those 3 diagnosis can explain that paratracheal mass based on the usual clinical presentation and radiographic presentation of those diseases. I think that she should have a proper ct scan chest with high resolution and see a cardiothoracic surgeon for consultation. Could it be some kind of anatomic anomaly or diverticulum is possible. ...Read more

Not significant: I am sorry, but I don't think that by itself will work. I do not know what is the reason to give you Prednisone for acute leukemia. If that is given in conjunction to other kind of therapy-that would make more sense. Please discuss with your oncologist further. Dacogen (decitabine) is something you can consider ...Read more
