What Are The Common Germs Which Cause Sore Throat Pharyngitis
Germs: The most common is viruses: therefore, antibiotics dont help. Bacterial causes include various types of strep., moraxella, hemophius, bacteroides, staph. Yeast is also a common cause in patients who have been on recent antibiotics, are debilitated (i.e., nursing home) and people who use steroid oral inhalers for copd, asthma. ...Read more
What is the difference between sore throat and pharyngitis...In diagnosis, in treatment and in causes ?
No difference: A sore throat is common lay persons jargon for a possible pain and inflamation in the throat whereas Pharyngitis is the professional medical term for inflammation and infection of the throat (pharynx). Thus technically there is minimal difference and whist a sore throat is the presenting complaint of a patient, pharyngitis is the diagnosis by the physician ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Pharyngitis means: Inflammation of the pharynx, just like appendicitis means inflammation of the appendix or cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder. "sore throat" is pretty general, and even as lay terminology could imply a viral pharyngitis or a strep bacterial pharyngitis. You could even have a mechanical pharyngitis from screaming at a sports event, for example. Hope this helps! ...Read more
I have had pharyngitis for almost 2 weeks. The sore throat went away but each side hurts to swallow, then goes away and comes back. Help?
Pharyngitis: A sore, red throat with pus on the tonsils, swollen neck lymph nodes, and fever may be strep pharyngitis, a bacterial infection that must be treated with antibiotics to avoid complications. In the absence of these symptoms, it's a virus which will run its course. Fatigue, liver and spleen swelling are signs of mononucleosis. Allergies can also cause throat pain. Get an evaluation if unsure. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Can i have infectious mononucleosis if my only symptom is sore throat(pharyngitis), i have white spots in my throat however they are not pus.
Probably not mono: Infectious mono is caused by Epstein Barr virus. Most EBV infections cause no symptoms at all; those that result in mononucleosis are the minority. Probably some mono cases have only partial symptoms, like sore throat. However, the vast majority of sore throats like yours, with or without "white spots", are not due to mono but to garden variety cold viruses. So probably not mono. ...Read more
Pain in right side of throat when swallowing - I have GERD due to hiatal hernia leading to chronic pharyngitis (although have never felt sore throat)?
Partial Rx GERD: I suspect the discomfort is related to your partially treated GERD. You are already taking Nexium (esomeprazole) and using Nasonex. Other non-drug treatments include not smoking, avoiding trigger foods, avoiding large meals, not lying down for 2 hours after eating, elevating head of bed, losing weight, avoiding tight belts, and chewing gum. If you have tried all these, review with doc alternate drug treatment ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sore throat for 9 days. Dry cough and stuffy nose. Swollen lymph nodes. Sore throat really bad at night. Diagnosed pharyngitis. I need it to go away!
Viral infection: Good morning, sore mouth, itchy throat, and dry cough suggest a viral infection involving the lining mucus membrane of respiratory system - upper and lower airway. Swelling of lymph glands of the area is associated with the process of our immune system trying to fight the virus. Symptom relief can be achieved by gargling with warm salt water, and ibuprofen. See doctor for antibiotics if needed. ...Read more
Diagnosed acute pharyngitis, 12 days since, fever gone, sore throat gone. Still red spots roof of mouth, white tongue remain. Should I be concerned?
No: Acute pharyngitis is usually a viral infection. I wonder if your PMD put you on an antibiotic. If so, the white tongue could be a fungal infection. Red spots on the palate still could be the viral infection that persists. Do not be concerned, but if the spots persist see either your doctor or a specialist in oral medicine. ...Read more

Urgent care: With a fever and "draining" (I'm assuming your ear?), I would recommend you see your doc or go to an urgent care clinic for a proper physical examination, including an examination of the ear, surrounding structures, and your nose and throat. It is possible you may require antibiotics. Your baby may need to be seen too. ...Read more
I am experiencing sore throat headache throbbing sensation fever pain when swallowing. Doc said its Pharyngitis gave me Azithromycin but its worst now?
Probably viral: Pharyngitis usually is a viral infection, and viruses do not respond to antibiotics. Your doctor probably prescribed azithromycin in case it's strep, but if not, it's not surprising your symptoms are continuing and even getting worse. Check back with your doctor, but probably you'll just have to wait it out. Aspirin or ibuprofen (or related meds) may help control pain. Good luck! ...Read more
