Possibily: Most surperficial wound would not cause major problems, MRSA is a staphiloccal infection that is resistant to methicillin, ussually it is sensitive to vancomycin, bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) clindamycin; however, if the bacteria get into the blood stream, the lungs, the heart valves, it can be catastrophic. People can be colonized with MRSA in the nostrils, rectum, groin causing reccurent infections. ...Read more

I transferred a guy with only gloves but come to find out he has mrsa...how likely are my chances to get it?

Mrsa: MRSA is pretty ubiquitous and in the community anyway. Since you used gloves the likelihood is decreased and would not worry . Would wash carefully with soap and water, hands and face may also consider using Hibiclen, an antiseptic cleaner over intact skin/ hands ( not mucus membranes of eyes, ears, genitals/ gluteal fold-as it burns). Low risk, no worries: Staph, whether MRSA or non-MRSA types, can be transmitted between people, but mostly by direct personal contact, not through food. Anyway, for every person you contact who you know had staph or MRSA, via food or personally, probably another 10 were carriers without knowing it. Just use common sense hygiene with all people (cover coughs, hand washing, etc) then don't worry about it. ...Read more

MRSA is contagious: Mrsa is contagious and can be easily transmitted? The germ is harbored in the nose. To prevent spread., dab an antibiotic ointment in your child's nose 4times a day.
