What are the chances of conceiving naturally: 13m /ml sperm count, 70% motility, 12% morphology. Female 30yrs, fertility tests normal?

SEMEN: Anything can happen but with a low sperm count your chances are markedly decreased. There is something strange about having a slow sperm count and normal motility with poor morphology. I would have that semen analysis repeated and check the patient for a varicocele. ...Read more

Why would a woman be able to conceive when she is in her 20's but unable in her 30's?

Why would a woman be able to conceive when she is in her 20's but unable in her 30's?

Lots of reasons: Fertility can change drastically over 1-2 years much less 5-10. Women have fewer eggs and the ovaries may not function as well over time. A woman's fallopian tubes may be damaged over time. More eggs may be genetically abnormal. Or there can be changes in the sperm or the uterus. So your question addresses a very common occurrence. ...Read more

How accurate are devices such as the Clearblue Fertility Monitor in determining if a woman is ovulating/able to conceive? Are they worth the $150++?

How accurate are devices such as the Clearblue Fertility Monitor in determining if a woman is ovulating/able to conceive? Are they worth the $150++?

Expensive/Confusing: The Clearblue Fertility Monitor watches for the LH surge and also monitors estrogen. You have to buy the monitor plus monthly test strips and this is expensive. I don't personally recommend it as I have had women get very confusing results. I prefer the simple LH surge detection kits. They are a lot cheaper and I have found the results less confusing. Best wishes! ...Read more

The women in my family have a hard time conceiving and I suspect I will as well. At what point can I seek fertility help? My mother and my aunts had a difficult time conceiving, and I suspect my situation is the same. I have irregular periods and have bee

90%: 90% of couples trying to conceive get pregnant within a year. The 10% who don’t fall into the category of patients we label as “infertile, ” though a percentage of those patients, if left untreated, will go on to conceive at some point in the future. The most important factor governing if and when you seek treatment from a doctor depends on your age and commitment to conceiving. If you’re 25 and on the fence about getting pregnant, take your time, relax, have lots of sex, and let nature take it’s course. But if you’re over 35 and desperately want to be the mother of a baby that shares your dna, don’t wait longer than six months before seeing your doctor to explore the underlying causes of your irregular periods and reduced fertility. Often, irregular periods signal anovulation (meaning that you may not be ovulating.) anovulation can result from conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, hypothyroidism, or eating disorders, in addition to a variety of other causes. Your doctor can order some tests that will help you decide whether you need to jump into fertility treatment with both feet or whether you’re better off chilling out and taking a wait-and-see approach. Most importantly, remember that stress reduces fertility and the best thing you can do as you navigate this journey is to trust that whatever happens will serve you and your highest good. ...Read more

Is it safe to take zyrtec (cetirizine) most days of the year or is there a chance for long term problems with taking it too much? I try to avoid taking medicines.

Zyrtec (cetirizine): Zyrtec is a safe anti-histamine with a relatively good tract record in long term users. But note that all medications have side effects. However, some are willing to take a small and smart risk for a better quality of life. Discuss nasal antihistamines & other non-systemic treatments with your doctor. With immunotherapy, an immunologist may be able to help avert your need for medications. ...Read more
