I have been using duo set and maxiflo 250 rotacaps by cipla for the last 6 months to control persistent cough. Is there any side effects if I continue?

Work with the doctor: All meds can have some side effects in some people. Duoset has ipratropium & salbutamol, to help open up airways and decrease mucus. Maxiflo has fluticasone and formoterol, to treat asthma too. The salbutamol & formoterol are similar drugs. With long term use, one must work with his doctor to see if the diagnosis is correct, to see if he is getting well, and to see if some meds can be weaned down. ...Read more

Been on oxycontin for several years for pain management and doing well. Is there a down side for my health?

Yes: Long term use of opioids can result in hormone imbalances, osteoporosis, impotence, as well as other systemic effects. There is always the risk for abuse and addiction. Relying on opioids for chronic pain management is a personal choice and is justified if their use improves your overall function and quality of life. Been on avapro (irbesartan) for 10 years, but been troubled by unknown cause if joint/muscular pain? Should i try change meds, what r the long term side effects?

Not avapro (irbesartan): I can tell you, it's not avapro (irbesartan). But to convince yourself, try stopping it for 2 weeks. If you're better, restart it. What is the time frame for weaning yourself of oxycontins used for pain relief?Have been using 40mg ones for 6 mths. How quickly can I drop the dosage?

Slowly: I assume that you are taking 40mg every 12 hours for a total dose of 80mg per day. You should wean slowly, usually by 10% increments. I would decrease to 30 mg bid for 2 weeks, then 20mg bid for 2 weeks, then 10mg bid for 4 weeks. If at any point you have true withdrawl symptoms, you can increase to the higher level briefly. Clonidine at low doses can reduce withdrawl symptoms. ...Read more

Can wean off slowly: If a person has been on dramamine (dimenhydrinate) for years, her primary care doctor can evaluate "why" and also help her to wean down gradually. The mind and body might not have symptoms if she were to wean off slowly. Some people have reported intestinal symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea, and some have reported being irritable and having some changes in blood pressure or heart rate as their withdrawl symptoms. ...Read more
