Limit smoked food.: There are studies that show cultures with a higher diet of smoked food (like the Scandinavians) have a higher risk of stomach cancer. Too much of anything is not a good thing. Too much protein is a big part of the obesity epidemic today. Have occasionally but do not neglect other yummy healthy foods like fruits, veggies and whole grains, complex carbs.

Canned oysters: Canned oysters should be safe to eat.

Oysters: I do not think there is a magic number on the amount you can eat. Raw oysters are probably more of an issues than cooked ones. Do not eat only for iron - eat for the developed taste and do not overeat. Also keep in mind the effects on your cholesterol which may be more of an issues in the long run.

Mgt/workup: The black color may be related to a number of things. If there is tar in the air, old blood in any area of the airway, this can cause this color in the sputum. If he is aspirating from his stomach, then this could also lead to this finding. I would suggest collecting sputum and taking it to your PCP for analysis. A virtual appt is available for follow up.

Not Necessary: I am happy to hear that your friend has recovered from what was likely either mild food reaction vs food poisoning, depending on his or her personal history. Hallucinations can be caused by fever, among other things.
