Sweet potatoes: It is doubtful that these have any specific added value or health benefits beyond being quite tasty and a source of nutrients. What's going on? I have always been able to eat raw potatoes... Until this year, same with bell peppers, bananas and raw vegetables. They make my mouth and throat itch now and just the other day I ate a piece of bell pepper and my throat swelled up. What's
I: I can't tell you. However, I might be concerned about possibly having developed a food allergy. Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin which can cause inflammation of mucus membranes. However, you said you ate a bell pepper. If you ever again develop swelling of your throat, that is a real medical emergency because it can cause your throat to close down which would prevent breathing. I recommend that you see an allergist to help determine what is going on, and int he meat time, I would avoid eating anything which makes your mouth or throat itch or swell. I would have asked if the foods were sprayed with the same pesticide, but you included bananas too. ...Read more
