What Are Some Supplements I Can Give To A Child With Constant Nose Bleeds
Unlikely to help: In an otherwise normal child who does not have a bleeding disorder, the most common reason for nose bleeds is nose picking. Two kinds of kids don't pick their nose: those without fingers, and those without a nose. The rest pick, some more than others, and some excessively. Humidity helps, so try some saline nasal spray to keep it lubricated, then see your pediatrician if the problem persists. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What causes a bloody nose and how do you prevent them? I work at a preschool and a lot of children are getting random bloody noses.
3 top reasons...: The three top reasons for bloody noses in children are picking their nose, picking their nose and PICKING their nose! The trauma could be as simple as rubbing the nose externally because of irritation from allergies or from the environment (dust, smoke...), but most often is that little finger going inside the nose and picking. Increasing humidity with humidifier or nasal saline spray can help. ...Read more
Need more info: There are other reasons besides a cold (commonly a virus) to have frequent cough and runny nose. Examples are allergies and reflux. How old is your child? Children also get sick often and that can be very normal. Prior to starting any new medication, even if over-the-counter, natural, organic, etc. always discuss it with your pediatrician. ...Read more

What over-the-counter medication can you give to an 8 month old baby for having a runny nose and quite a bit of sneezing?
None: Normal saline nose drops followed by suctioning the mucus is the most effective for young infants. Keep the air humid with a vaporizer. 11 month old fever of 102.5, very runny nose, and slight cough, also not sleeping well. Should I take him to see a doctor or can I treat this at home?
Depends: Fever in an 11mo can be triggered by a number of problems. A 102.5 is not much different than a 103 or 101 in predicting the need for a visit.Fever slows germ reproduction. If your child takes fluids well enough to wet diapers every 6hrs & has happy moments , home care is ok for now.Declining fluid intake, increasing passivity or fussing, or that mommy button going off in your head, get it checked. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My 2.5 month old baby boy has a bit of a cold. What are some things I can do to make things better? He is starting to get stuffed nose/small cough
Illness in infant: Nasal congestion and coughing in an infant is usually associated with an upper respiratory infection. Although most are viral and cannot be cured, bacterial forms in this age group can be very dangerous. Nasal saline drops to the nose can help with congestion (too young for any medication) while you are preparing for your doctor visit. ...Read more

My 8 month old baby has a running nose. What can I do to make it easier for her comfort. Are there house remedies to get rid of the running nose?
Suction: You can suction the nose if the mucus is thick or obstructing breathing. You can also use saline nose drops in the nose as often as needed to thin out the mucus, so it can be cleared. Sometimes letting them sit in a car seat or reclined seat will help. A vaporizer or humidifier can also help sometimes. ...Read more
My child aged 14 years often his nose starts bleeding, can you advise the reason for this and any medication which could help.
Several possibities: Most childhood nose bleeds are related to irritation of the nasal passages either from allergies or the irritant nature of inhaled debris. What can I do about my daughter's (4 y/o) constant nose scratching/digging due to allergies? Is it good to give her benadryl/claritin etc everyday?
Preschooler allergy: Your second question first - no it's not good to give Benadryl (diphenhydramine) multiple times a day, which would be needed to control allergies. Claritin is ok with the guidance of pediatrician or allergist. But it sounds like these are not controlling symptoms. There are other medications, both oral, and most appropriately for her condition, nasal steroid mist. Take time to see allergist and work up a plan! ...Read more
I have a granddaughter very over weight is there some sort of pill or drink prescription wise I can get her doctor to prescribe thats safe. Help?
No magic pill: You're right that it's a good idea to talk to her doctor, but there's no magic pill that will make people lose weight. It takes eating the amount of food appropriate for a person's needs and getting physical activity every day. Ideally, the whole family should be included in discussions about diet and exercise. It will only hurt the effort if she feels stigmatized because of her weight. ...Read more
Practical question: Many medications cause anticholinergic side effects, which can temporarily worsen cognition, but an upper respiratory tract infection needs some help. What can I do for a child who gets headaches from spinning in dance class? Is there something she can do to avoid this from happening?
Learn to spot: Dancers keep from getting dizzy by learning to 'spot'. This is a technique where the eyes are focused forward for as long as possible during a spin, then rapidly turning the head to focus in the original spot. Ask her dance teacher to work on this with her, and consider having a visual acuity exam with an optometrist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
