Will I be able to eat foods with added calcium, iron and magnesium if I'm on synthroid?

Will I be able to eat foods with added calcium, iron and magnesium if I'm on synthroid?

Food and thyroid...: You can eat any kind of food if taking Synthroid as long as you take this tablet away from all food and all medications. I highly recommend for it to be taken in the middle of the night so you are sure nothing interferes with its absoprtion. I have hypothyroidism and take thyroxine , is it ok for me to eat cruciferous vegetables and soya products?

I have hypothyroidism and take thyroxine , is it ok for me to eat cruciferous vegetables and soya products?

Yes, however...: Eating large amounts of cruciferous vegetables & soy can suppress thyroid function, but it is not clear how much and moderate consumption, esp. If these are cooked, should not have much of an effect. If you eat very large amounts of these then monitor levels of thyroid hormone to see if you need to take more thyroxine. Math does not add up: From your question, the math does not add up if you are taking 50 microgrm of thyroxin and your thyroid function like tsh, t3, T4 are normal and you are on 1200 calories daily diet and you exercise intensely 3 times a week and still do not loose weight. I will recommend you see your doctor and/or nutritionist as to what you are doing is right or wrong. ...Read more

I've been on Synthroid 25 mcg for 1 month for hypothyroidism & the last 2 weeks my energy level has dropped. I don't even want to eat. Is that normal?

I've been on Synthroid 25 mcg for 1 month for hypothyroidism & the last 2 weeks my energy level has dropped. I don't even want to eat. Is that normal?

Not normal: Hi. We don't know your initial status at time of starting Synthroid, and after 4 weeks of taking it, you're not quite equilibrated on that dose yet. Nevertheless, you almost certainly have more l-thyroxine in you now than 4 weeks ago. Therefore, I think the further loss of energy and loss of appetite are unrelated to taking Synthroid. That's a very low dose and may not be enough. Labs will tell. ...Read more
