Will I be able to eat foods with added calcium, iron and magnesium if I'm on synthroid (thyroxine)?

Will I be able to eat foods with added calcium, iron and magnesium if I'm on synthroid (thyroxine)?

Food and thyroid...: You can eat any kind of food if taking Synthroid (thyroxine) as long as you take this tablet away from all food and all medications. I highly recommend for it to be taken in the middle of the night so you are sure nothing interferes with its absoprtion. Once absobed - typically in one hour - then any food will not affect this medication. ...Read more

If a healthy person takes synthroid, (thyroxine) what happens? Good, bad, or neutral?

If a healthy person takes synthroid, (thyroxine) what happens? Good, bad, or neutral?

Weird question: Hi. If I understand, you mean what would happen if a person without hypothyroidism takes Synthroid (thyroxine)? If a non-hypothyroid person took a high enough dose, it would make the person hyperthyroid. A very low dose could be accommodated because the pituitary would adjust TSH secretion to adjust endogenous thyroid function downward to account for the added exogenous thyroid hormone. But why do you ask? ...Read more

Is the generic of Synthroid (thyroxine) just as good? I've only taken the generic and it works. Would the nongeneric name brand work veven better?

Generic l-thyroxine: Is not as reliable or consistent as brand name replacement; it varies from brand to brand and i would not recommend it's use. Just because your lab is normal once per year (or as often as it's checked) doesn't mean it's consistently normal throughout the rest of the time, as it would be if you were receiving the brand name product. The extra money is well worth it. ...Read more

Unrelated: You've started on the smallest dose of Synthroid (thyroxine) and is certainly not causing early satiety..If this feeling doesn't pass in the next few days,go c ur doc. ...Read more

I have hypothyroidism and take thyroxine , is it ok for me to eat cruciferous vegetables and soya products?

I have hypothyroidism and take thyroxine , is it ok for me to eat cruciferous vegetables and soya products?

Yes, however...: Eating large amounts of cruciferous vegetables & soy can suppress thyroid function, but it is not clear how much and moderate consumption, esp. If these are cooked, should not have much of an effect. If you eat very large amounts of these then monitor levels of thyroid hormone to see if you need to take more thyroxine.
