Forgive me : Ket me be frank. Your boyfriend is drinking heavily enough to put his health at grave danger. His liver may or may not go bad and it takes a long time. But other aspects of his life will go bad from alcohol. I guarantee it. If he cares about you, he will stop now. If he continues, recognize he is not the right guy for you. A few beers will kick them upwards; running a marathon is likely to put you into "danger zone" -- a lab value means nothing except in context.
