What Are Clear Liquids Before Colonoscopy
Define clear liquids: "clear liquids" are any food that is not solid at room ; body temperature that will allow sunlight to pass through: ice pops, jello, broth without particles, juices without particulates, water, light tea. Avoid red-dyed foods that may leave residue that looks like blood to the colonoscopist. Confirm your selection with the performing doctor--you don't want to have to re-do the test due 2 bad prep. ...Read more
Understanding only clear liquids can be had prior to a colonoscopy, does beer count? Specifically a bud light?
Beer is clear: Prior to colonoscopy it is best to keep the bowel relatively empty not to interfere with visualization of colon mucosa and any potential growths. Clear liquid for the most part is liquid without residue, that is virtually transparent to light. Obviously milk does not fit into profile, nor fruit juices for the most part. Beer is transparent and doesn't cause problems with residue. ...Read more
I'm having a colonoscopy please tell me what is considered a clear liquid can I have apple sauce? And why can't I have red jello? I only like the red
Follow instructions: Generally speaking, the working definition of a liquid is clear is one in which you can pour in a glass and still be able to 'read the newspaper through it'. Apple sauce is not allowed. Red jello and liquids are not allowed because they can make any remaining fluid in the colon at the time of the colonoscopy look like blood. Follow your prep instructions so you can get the best exam possible. ...Read more
I need a list of clear sodas with caffeine due to drinking clear liquids for a colonoscopy on the 6th of April. The problem is I need caffeine to help?
Can I have Werther's Original Caramel Hard Candies the day before my colonoscopy? I am on a clear liquid diet.
Yes: The hard candies will dissolve into soft or liquid form before they reach your bowel. While they are not quite clear, they are close enough. And the volume they would produce would be very small. I probably would not do more than 5 or 6 of them, though; maybe 10 at the most. None on day of procedure. Clearer/lighter hard candy would be better. Keep up the water!! Good luck! ...Read more
I have been on clear liquid diet all day and started colonoscopy prep 4.5 hours ago. I have drank 2 liters of movi-prep without a BM. What should I do?
Continue prep: Continue the prep as prescribed. If you have not had good BMs prior to time for the procedure, let the doctor who is going to do the procedure know. If your colon is not cleared out, the doctor will not be able to see well enough for the colonoscopy to be of any value. You may need to be prescribed a different bowel prep. ...Read more
Good morning, I will be starting my colonoscopy prep tomorrow. Can I use a small amount of 2% milk in EARLY morning coffee, then start my clear liquid?
Sure: That amount won't make any difference. But I'm a little concerned that bending this "rule" may lead you to bend a few more. Improper or inadequate prep for a colonscopy is the biggest reason many have to be repeated because the exam was suboptimal/inconclusive. You wouldn't want to repeat it. I would strongly encourage you to follow the prep instructions PRECISELY. It's one day:) ...Read more
